The aftermath of Cyclone Alfred has resulted in mass rescheduling of race meetings in south east Queensland including a 21-race bonanza at Eagle Farm and the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Racing Queensland officials have made the decision to stage the delayed Gold Coast Jewel meeting as a twilight fixture which will slightly overlap an 11-race card at Eagle Farm which is due to start at the earlier time of 10:28am.

Proven Thoroughbreds is set to have half a dozen runners across the two programs. Our only other two runners this week – CARTWHEELS (pictured) and OTONO are both last start winning mares set to line up at Eagle Farm Wednesday and Kembla Friday respectively.

The Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale is the next upcoming auction which Proven will be attending. The sale that provided us with the likes of PRIVATE EYE, IN FLIGHT, FLYING BANDIT and INVINCIANO will commence on Monday March 17.

Meanwhile, the Magic Millions March QTIS Sale, which was originally scheduled for Monday March 10, has been put back to March 24 due to the recent adverse weather on the Gold Coast.

Our first open day for 2025 will be conducted on Sunday March 30 at a new location – Thenford Farm in the NSW Southern Highlands – in conjunction with the Joe Pride and Kerry Parker stables. The start time will be 11am. As this event includes catering, RSVP is essential. Clients old, new and prospective are all welcome. To register your attendance, please get in touch via our CONTACT US page.

This week’s SECTIONALS REVIEW article is now online and included a proposed change to the conditions of the All Star Mile which drew a small field of seven last Saturday.

Information on all of Proven’s 2025 yearlings can be viewed on our AVAILABLE HORSES page.

SIRE ON FIRE – SUPER SETH

Two Group 1 Guineas (LINEBACKER & FEROCE) in the space of a week has this NZ-based stallion right back in the spotlight. He also jagged a Group 3 placegetter in Sunday’s Black Opal Stakes for 2yos in Canberra. This Saturday he has another stakes juvenile representative in Group 3 Pago Pago Stakes runner KILMAN.

BLACK BOOKER – IMA CAPRI

Somehow missed third place after battling away resolutely at only his second career start at Goulburn on Monday. Prior to that he was beaten 0.16 in a blanket finish at Hawkesbury on debut. Both starts to date have been over 1000m and gives the impression he will appreciate the easier tempo of 1200m next start.

BET WITH NIC

Our times analyst Nic Ashman will be publishing his popular best bet for Saturday’s racing on Friday.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Eagle Farm Wednesday March 12

Class 3 Plate 1400m

CARTWHEELS

Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: Second-up off an electric fresh victory when defying the pattern to win over 1200m. Loves soft ground (5:2-2-0), is two from three when second-up and is a previous winner over this track and distance. Go well.

Kembla Grange Friday March 14

Midway BM64 Handicap 1600m

OTONO

Kerry Parker/Jay Ford

Comment: Impressive last start winner when circling the field to win a Class 1 over this trip at Wyong. Will likely have to go back again from a wide draw but gets onto her home track that is usually kind to run-on horses.

Eagle Farm Saturday March 15

QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate 1200m

TINTAURA

Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Well bred filly making her debut. May want further than 1200m and is giving away race experience to most of her rivals so prefer to see for now.

BM78 Handicap 1400m

HANG FIVE

Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Coming off a below par run over this track and distance when beaten more than 7 lengths. Generally improves with racing and is third-up now so look for an improved showing from a low draw.

BM65 Handicap 1400m

HEYOKA

Matt Hoysted/Cody Collis (a2)

Comment: In form mare with a pair of wins and a third from three outings this campaign. Had to do too much work in front last start and the effort told late, though was still only 0.7 lengths from the winner. Will be thereabouts again from a good barrier.

QTIS BM70 Handicap 1200m

TAKE A BOW

Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Also entered for the QTIS Jewel but this looks the softer option, particularly from barrier four. Registered an overdue win with a thrilling performance at the Sunshine Coast over this trip. Can go on with it now but does have a habit of being slow away from the gates.

Gold Coast Saturday March 15

Class 4 Plate 1200m

TOWN CRIER

Matt Hoysted/Justin Stanley

Comment: Gritty win first-up when leading throughout over 1110m at Doomben. Up to 1200m now suit and has won second-up previously. Does have 60kg on his back but is a proven weight carrier and can win again from a favourable barrier.

FORTUNEER

Matt Hoysted/Damien Thornton

Comment: Suffered interference first-up around Ipswich and ultimately couldn’t bridge the gap on the leaders. Better suited here up to 1200m and the track should improve sufficiently for her to be competitive.
