Despite the majority of the country being in the midst of a cold snap, we’ve had some respite from the rain which will likely see good tracks presented in both Sydney and Brisbane this week.
That news is music to the ears of trainer Joe Pride, who will saddle up good-track specialist INVINCIANO (pictured) at Rosehill on Saturday. The I AM INVINCIBLE mare has endured an interrupted year due to the inclement weather but hopefully can make up for lost time during the winter, which is set to include a trip to Brisbane for stakes races.
On the topic of stakes racing, there was a mixture of pride and disappointment to see our stable star PRIVATE EYE finish a luckless second in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm last Saturday. Carrying the 57kg topweight, PRIVATE EYE was held up for the first half of the straight before flashing home into second. We were left to wonder what could have been but as the saying goes; “That’s racing!”
The gelding has arrived safe and sound at Kolora Lodge for his winter spell. After what has been a long campaign, we would like to give him a decent break and aim towards the back end of the spring, possibly culminating in the new $3 million Champions Mile at Flemington on November 5.
SCALLOPINI, who finished fifth in the Listed Wayne Wilson (1600m) on Saturday, has also been sent to Kolora Lodge for a spell.
Joining INVINCIANO at Rosehill on Saturday will be RUBINOCCHI who was gallant in defeat a fortnight ago. The 3YO RUBICK filly will be chasing her fourth win in 11 career starts.

BLACK BOOKER
SNIPPY FOX found herself in the unfamiliar position of trailing the field first-up in the Listed Bob Charley Stakes (1100m) at Randwick but ran on powerfully late to just miss a place in fourth. After two below-par trials, it was feared she may not have come up this preparation but that run quickly put to bed any doubts about her form. She will appreciate stepping up in trip next time, where she can travel in her customary on-pace position.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Doomben Wednesday June 15
QTIS 3YO BM65 Handicap 1350m:
MERSEYSIDE
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Samantha Collett
Comment: Second-up off a freshen last time out and was much too good for her opposition, winning by 1.5 lengths over 1400m on the Sunshine Coast polytrack. Will appreciate getting back on turf but a lack of suitable races sees her coming back slightly in trip when she may be looking for further.
Wyong Thursday June 16
Maiden Handicap 1600m:
FORTIVACI
Joe Pride/Sam Clipperton
Comment: Has displayed steady improvement with each run in his first preparation but needs to show his worth now that’s he’s fit and running over a suitable distance. Drawn well after having no luck from a wide barrier last time.
Rosehill Saturday June 18
F&M BM78 Handicap 1300m
INVINCIANO
Joe Pride/TBA
Comment: Consistent mare resuming from a break, and importantly on a track that is going to be much better than what we’ve seen in Sydney for a long time. Capable of pulling out a run fresh but will be more effective once she gets out to a mile.
3YO&4YO BM72 Handicap 1100m:
RUBINOCCHI
Joe Pride/TBA
Comment: Speedy filly who just got gunned down late here two weeks ago. Back to 1100m suits and will give them something to catch again.
