Mudlark mare IN FLIGHT will be chasing back-to-back stakes wins when she lines up in the Listed Bob Charley AO (1100m) at Randwick on Saturday.

The Randwick track was rated a soft (7) on Wednesday with rain still falling. A scenario not ideal for most horses but one which IN FLIGHT will relish. All six of her career wins have come on rain-affected ground and the Joe Pride-trained 4yo is coming off a slashing victory in the Listed Bright Shadow Stakes (1100m) at Doomben last month.

IN FLIGHT’s stablemates ACCREDITED and COSMONOVA have also accepted for the meeting at headquarters however the prevailing weather could see them saved for another day.

Proven’s other Randwick runner is the Kerry Parker-trained ELIVINA, who will be chasing a consolation prize in the 2000m BM72 after all but missing a run in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks where she is currently fourth emergency.

Like ELIVINA, TERMAGANT is unlikely to contest the Listed Lightning Handicap at Eagle Farm after coming up as the fourth emergency. Trainer Matt Hoysted has entered the talented mare for two races at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday as an alternative kick-off point for her winter preparation.

In other news, PRIVATE EYE has been withdrawn from the rescheduled Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m) on Saturday. After considering all our options, it was decided that the horse would best be served focusing on the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) first-up, rather than backing-up seven days. So, he will trial at Rosehill this Friday in preparation for that assignment.

This week’s SECTIONALS REVIEW (authored by form analyst Nic Ashman) identifies two geldings to follow in coming months while also assessing the merits of KING’S SECRET’s win at Rosehill on Saturday.

Information on all of Proven’s 2025 yearlings can be viewed on our AVAILABLE HORSES page.

SIRE ON FIRE – TRAPEZE ARTIST

Four winners over the weekend has closed the gap on THE AUTUMN SUN to just one win on the third season sires premiership. Among those weekend winners were BIG SWINGER at Caulfield and EQUILIBRIST at Kembla Grange – both of which were prepared by Proven trainers Charlotte Littlefield and Kerry Parker respectively.

BLACK BOOKER – MELTDOWN

Resumed with a 6th placed finish over 1200m at Doomben last Wednesday. Still very green in the run home and probably knocked up late. Has always shown a good level of ability and when the penny drops he will be breaking his maiden. A big thing in his favour is that he is by boom sire TOO DARN HOT.

BET WITH NIC

Our times analyst Nic Ashman will be publishing his popular best bet for Saturday’s racing on Friday.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Doomben Wednesday Jun 4

Class 3 Plate 1350m

CARTWHEELS

Matt Hoysted/Nikita Beriman

Comment: Getting close to D-Day for this mare after some below par performances this preparation. In fairness barriers haven’t been kind to her and she’s drawn seven of nine here but needs to find something extra.

Canberra Friday Jun 6

Maiden Plate 1080m

MOVER AND SHAKER

Kerry Parker/TBA

Comment: Made steady improvement in her initial preparation and resumes here off the back of some encouraging trials/jumpouts. Unknown on the synthetic surface and has a wide draw to contend with.

Randwick Saturday Jun 7

3YO BM72 Handicap 2000m

ELIVINA

Kerry Parker/Andrew Adkins

Comment: Promising filly looking for this trip now after running on stoutly over 1800m here a fortnight ago. Proven in the wet but faces another stiff barrier. Each-way.

Listed Bob Charley AO Stakes 1100m

IN FLIGHT

Joe Pride/Jay Ford

Comment: Gun wet-tracker racing in career best form. Drawn awkwardly but she’s versatile and will handle the surface better than anything else in the race.

BM94 Handicap 1300m

ACCREDITED

Joe Pride/Nash Rawiller

Comment: Appeared to resent racing anti-clockwise on the undulating Sandown track last start. Flew home to finish within half a length of the winner at Listed level the start prior. Can bounce back if the track dries out but unlikely too at this stage so may trial instead.

BM78 Handicap 1000m

COSMONOVA

Joe Pride/Reece Jones

Comment: First-up. Has looked as good as ever in her lead-up trials but been given no favours from barrier 15. May be saved for Canterbury on Monday if she draws better there.

Eagle Farm Saturday Jun 7

Listed Lightning Handicap 1000m

TERMAGANT

Matt Hoysted/Nikita Beriman

Comment: Exciting mare ready to explode first-up but it would appear she is going to miss a run here. Unfortunate but whilst she is eligible for easier races she may as well contest them before chasing black-type.

Sunshine Coast Sunday Jun 8

BM75 Handicap 1000m/Class 6 Handicap 1200m

TERMAGANT

Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Exciting mare ready to explode first-up. Also entered for a stakes race on Saturday so should take some beating back to this level.

Wyong Sunday Jun 8

F&M BM64 Handicap 1200m

INDEFENSIBLE

Joe Pride/TBA

Comment: Determined last start winner on the Canberra Acton track last start. Would like to see the track improve from its current soft (7) rating to give this mare her best chance of posting consecutive wins.

Sapphire Coast Sunday Jun 8

Maiden Plate 1010m

MOVER AND SHAKER

Kerry Parker/TBA

Comment: Made steady improvement in her initial preparation and resumes here off the back of some encouraging trials/jumpouts. This looks an attractive starting point for her winter campaign.

Canterbury Monday Jun 9

BM88 Handicap 1100m

COSMONOVA

Joe Pride/TBA

Comment: First-up. Has looked as good as ever in her lead-up trials and won over this track and distance in her only run here last winter. Also drops back to benchmark grade after a midfield finish at Group 3 level in March.

THE BLACK CLOUD

Joe Pride/TBA

Comment: Talented mare but has only placed once in her most recent five starts. However she does have a good fresh record and her on pace style of racing will suit Canterbury.
