Queensland’s winter carnival concludes at the Sunshine Coast this Saturday where Proven Thoroughbreds will be represented by a pair of well performed females.
Dual stakes winner STROLL (pictured) lines up in the meeting’s main event – the $300,000 Group 3 Winx Guineas (1600m) while RED RUBI shoots for her 7th career victory in the 1000m BM85 contest.
The last two Saturdays have seen Proven horses settle for runner-up honours in stakes company with OCEAN TREATY and BETTER GET SET falling just short at Eagle Farm and Ipswich respectively. Hopefully STROLL can go one better than her stablemates this Saturday and become our 24th stakes winner in the last 24 months.
Other notable runners this week include the lightly-raced OCEAN ZAR and 2YO first starter TOWN CRIER at Eagle Farm’s midweek fixture.
This week we announced a date for our inaugural Open Day with trainer Kerry Parker. All are welcome at Kerry’s Kembla Grange stables from 10.45am on Sunday July 30.
A multiple Group 1 winning trainer in the last five years, Kerry is vastly underrated. As such, his select stable represents great opportunity for Proven clients and we look forward to a long association in much the same manner as the relationships we’ve carved out with the O’Dea/Hoysted team and Joe Pride. Yearlings by SO YOU THINK, CAPITALIST, ALMANZOR & SAXON WARRIOR will be paraded as well as stable stars THINK IT OVER & HOPE IN YOUR HEART. To register your attendance please get in touch via our CONTACT US page.

BLACK BOOKER
TERANGA simply never got a crack at them first-up at Doomben last week. Jockey Jaden Lloyd was forced to change course multiple times in the home straight while his mount was climbing over their backs. Impossible to know where she would have finished with a clear passage but she looked to have plenty to offer and will be better second-up and over further.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Kembla Grange June 27
Class 1 Handicap 1000m
MOUNT WARNING
Joe Pride/Jay Ford
Comment: Runner-up at her last two outings after leading them up over 1250m and 1100m. Back to 1000m now – the same distance she won over when breaking her maiden first-up in April. Each-way.
Eagle Farm Wednesday June 28
2YO Maiden Plate 1200m
TOWN CRIER
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton
Comment: Well bred 2YO on debut. Won a 1050m trial in good style at Deagon on June 13 so should be ready for this 1200m assignment.
Maiden Plate 1400m
OCEAN ZAR
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson
Comment: Rattled home into fourth over 1200m at Doomben first-up. Didn’t have the clearest of runs on that occasion so with even luck she should be going very close.
Kilcoy Thursday June 29
Maiden Handicap 1200m
EXTORTIONIST
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Emily Lang (a1.5)
Comment: Got going late at Dalby first-up so extra 100m is expected to suit. Slow learning horse but can win if he puts it all together here.
Sunshine Coast Saturday July 1
Group 3 Winx Guineas 1600m
STROLL
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Andrew Mallyon
Comment: Ready to peak third-up. Untried at the mile but has always given the impression she is looking for this trip. Will be suited going from Ipswich to the open space of the Sunshine Coast where she was an impressive winner on debut as a 2YO.
BM85 Handicap 1000m
RED RUBI
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Well-bred, consistent mare who looks beautifully placed here. Drops back from Listed company and loves being kept fresh at 1000m. Big chance.
