The brave galloper MACCOMO has his first shot at a Saturday race as one of Proven Thoroughbreds’ half a dozen runners in the week ahead.
A very consistent horse, MACCOMO (pictured) is coming off a defeat by the barest possible margin on the Randwick Kensington circuit last week. Again weighted to advantage with the aid of a claiming apprentice, in this case Brock Ryan’s 2kg, the 4YO NZ bred gelding tackles 1600m for the first time and finds a heavy surface for the first time this preparation.
Elsewhere a couple of younger Joe Pride gallopers step out for their second career starts namely RUBINOCCHI at Kembla Thursday and JUST A TIFF up the highway at Newcastle Saturday. Another Pride trained runner in the Proven colours will be the big, grey filly HIGH TRIBUTE. A more volatile form line would be hard to find with a victory at Kembla bookended by a pair of last placings at Wyong and Warwick Farm respectively.
Our lone Queensland runner for the week will be YOU CHOOSE who attempts to kick start his career in a Maiden at the Gold Coast on the weekend.
The new Covid restrictions in Sydney have unfortunately resulted in the postponement of our Joe Pride/Proven Open Morning on Sunday. Hopefully we can reschedule in coming weeks but at this stage the QLD Open Morning at the O’Dea/Hoysted stables on July 4 will proceed.
This event will be fully catered and include free merchandise (lapel pins, cufflinks and bag charms/pendants). A selection of available yearlings will be showcased as well as current racehorses.

Comment: Has been improved by three interrupted runs from a spell and gets to an appealing distance on his home track. Historically not at home on heavy ground but is going well and running into form.
Comment: Mixing her form quite noticeably with a last/first/last trio of runs since returning from a spell. Looks for redemption in this on the big Kembla circuit, the scene of her only win two starts ago.
Comment: Very green on debut back in Jan but a lot more polished in a recent trial, albeit on the Polytrack. Striking a heavy track for the first time, a wide gate and a well credentialled field so will need to aim up.
Comment: Racing very well without winning but a repeat of his most recent narrow defeat should have him right in this, especially on his preferred heavy ground. Overdue for a win.
Comment: Ran creditably on debut at Gosford on heavy ground. Coming back in trip but getting to the spacious Newcastle track and hopefully a firmer surface.
Comment: Ran well on a heavy surface at this track and distance 2 starts ago but subsequently flopped when back on top of the ground. Has winkers applied and coming off a short freshen up so a significant day for him.
