Two runners at Randwick on Saturday highlight the week ahead for Proven Thoroughbreds.

Joe Pride-trained gelding ARGENT D’OR and John Bateman’s promising three-year-old filly NICCONITA are down to race at headquarters and both are considered winning chances.

ARGENT D’OR is expected to appreciate coming back in distance on a genuine wet track in the 1000m BM81 after a slightly disappointing finish as favourite at Rosehill last Saturday.

NICCONITA (pictured) tackles the 1200m Highway race after a pair of dominant wins in the country, the latest being a thrashing of older opponents with 60kg. The daughter of Nicconi is untried on heavy ground but has a touch of class about her.

Sunday at Wagga sees NICCONITA’s stablemates WYENDRA and COUNTERFIRE continue their preparations in the 1300m C2 and 2000m BM65 respectively.

Then on Tuesday three Proven Thoroughbreds horses are set to race Wyong. The Pride-trained SO SPIRITED runs in the 1350m BM66 from the inside draw while GREENSPAN tackles the 1600m C1 and THE GOLDEN HIND debuts in the 1300m 2YO Maiden for John Thompson.

Trainer Steve O’Dea has entered both REAL STING and SCALLOPINI for Doomben’s Wednesday meeting but predicted rainfall could see their programs change.

UNYIELDING is set to have his second start for our Victorian trainer Archie Alexander in the 1200m BM64 at Pakenham on Thursday.

Our trialists in the week ahead include MASTERATI at Hawkesbury on Tuesday, and TOO TO HOLD and CHOREOGRAPH at Doomben on the same day.
