Proven Thoroughbreds will be aiming for more Queensland winter carnival success this Saturday at Eagle Farm.
The Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted-trained OCEAN TREATY (pictured) will fly the Proven flag in the Listed Tattersall’s Mile (1600m) while CONTEMPTUOUS tackles the Group 3 Healey Stakes (1200m).
OCEAN TREATY is certainly worthy of black type status, having won 7 of her 21 career starts which has seen her accrue a benchmark rating of 86. Under the handicap conditions of the race, she will get in lightly with regular hoop Ben Thompson aboard.
CONTEMPTUOUS, twice placed a Group level previously, has a wide draw to contend with on Saturday but has stats to suggest he will run well, particularly his record at the distance (7:4-1-1).
This year’s Queensland carnival has already been one to remember for Proven with THINK ABOUT IT annexing the Kingsford Smith Cup-Stradbroke Handicap Group 1 double as well as seasoned performers CONTEMPTUOUS and BETTER GET SET picking up stakes placings.
Outside of OCEAN TREATY, Proven will have stakes placed mare TERANGA at Doomben’s Wednesday meeting and 3YO maiden UNDERHAND at Gatton on Saturday.

BLACK BOOKER
ACCREDITED made the perfect start to his career with a barnstorming win over 1000m on Tuesday. It was only humble Nowra but the performance suggested there are bigger things in store for this Joe Pride-trained 3YO.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Doomben Wednesday June 21
Class 3 Plate 1350m
TERANGA
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd
Comment: First-up and drawn wide on a tricky circuit so expecting her to settle in the back half of the field and doing her best work late. Will be better over further.
Eagle Farm Saturday June 24
Listed Tattersall’s Mile 1600m
OCEAN TREATY
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson
Comment: Enormous effort last start when beaten less than two lengths under weight-for-age conditions. Endured a three wide throughout there yet was still there at the finish. Plunges in weight and ready to peak third-up.
Group 3 Healey Stakes 1200m
CONTEMPTUOUS
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd (a)
Comment: Placed here at huge odds when first-up at Group 2 level under set weights and penalties conditions. Gets a favourable weight swing on the favourite PRINCE OF BOOM but will need luck from a wide draw.
Gatton Saturday June 24
QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap 860m
UNDERHAND
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Unplaced as favourite when resuming over 1100m at Dalby last time out. Back in trip and added fitness are pluses but needs to lift.
