Proven Thoroughbreds is set to have three runners in three states on Saturday, including a pair of feature race starters.

The Joe Pride-trained THE BLACK CLOUD (pictured) will test her wares down the famous Flemington straight in the final heat of the Creswick Sprint Series where a top two finish will guarantee her a start in the 1200m Listed Final back at Flemington on July 6.

On the same day at Ipswich’s annual stand alone meeting, FORTUNEER will line up in the T L Cooney over 1350m as a potential springboard to the Group 3 Winx Guineas at the Sunshine Coast next month.

Our third Saturday runner will be another promising 3yo filly in COSMONOVA at Randwick.

Last week was a profitable one for the Proven team. Wins to IN FLIGHT (Rosehill, Saturday) and TERMAGANT (Sunshine Coast, Friday) elevated our number of winners for the season to 45.

Both IN FLIGHT and TERMAGANT are also 3yo fillies, as is our previous winner MOONFLEET. So, it would seem the theme for June is 3yos of the fairer sex! Let’s hope that continues on Saturday.

SIRE ON FIRE – FLYING ARTIE

FLYING ARTIE takes the honours this week having produced Royal Ascot Group 1 winner ASFOORA on Tuesday night as well as our impressive winner at Rosehill last Saturday, IN FLIGHT. Proven has some shares remaining in the FLYING ARTIE x ORDOS HONOR colt bred by China Horse Club. CLICK HERE for the latest video update from the stables of Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted.

BLACK BOOKER – DONELEGANCE

DONELEGANCE did a good job to finish fourth at just her second career start earlier this month. Shunted widest on the home turn of the tight Wyong circuit, she stuck to her task gamely. She was dropping from 1200m on a heavy 9 at a big track (Kembla Grange) to 1100m on a soft 7 so think she can figure in the finish next time back onto a more spacious track and up in distance.

BET WITH NIC

Our resident times analyst Nic Ashman is currently on annual leave but will be back on deck before final Group 1 of the season – the Tattersalls Tiara at Eagle Farm.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Kembla Grange Thursday Jun 20

3YO Maiden Handicap 1200m

ELLE HUDSON

Joe Pride/Jay Ford

Comment: NZ import making his Australian debut. Ran home the fastest sectionals of the race when 4th at his only run back in NZ. Likely to need further than this but could surprise.

4YO&UP Maiden Handicap 1200m

AQUATICA

Kerry Parker/Adrian Layt

Comment: First-up for new stable. Didn’t handle a heavy track in her recent trial and is probably going to find most of her opposition a bit too slick here. Prefer to wait until she gets out to a mile and beyond.

BM64 Handicap 1300m

LICHESTER

Kerry Parker/Tim Clark

Comment: Won over this course and distance in January but that was when she was hard fit on a good 3 surface. Yet to place in three previous first-up attempts and faces a soft track this time. Will more than likely need this outing.

Gatton Thursday Jun 20

Maiden Plate 860m

LEVAR

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Emily Lang (a)

Comment: Showed good speed on debut and was only nailed late over the 800m at Ipswich. Back to country level here and with added fitness, he should be hard to beat.

Maiden Plate 1400m

ENLIGHTENING

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: Never travelled on debut over 1200m at the Gold Coast but did pass some tired horses late. Racing as though he will need every bit of the 1400m here and back in grade helps but probably needs to find something more to figure in the finish.

CHATTERBOX

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Emily Lang (a)

Comment: Drawn wide but will appreciate getting onto a good surface after struggling in the heavy conditions on debut at the Sunshine Coast. Look for improvement.

Kilcoy Friday Jun 21

Class 4 Handicap 1500m

BETTER YET

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Emily Lang (a)

Comment: Received a pass mark first-up at Ipswich over 1350m. Gets out to her ideal distance range now and has drawn the inside gate in a field that lacks depth.

Flemington Saturday June 22

3YO Handicap 1100m

THE BLACK CLOUD

Joe Pride/Jay Ford

Comment: Did all bar win last time out when finishing runner-up to the promising FLEETWOOD. Back to her own age and sex now as she gets her first look of the Flemington straight. If she handles the experience she will show her class.

Randwick Saturday June 22

BM78 Handicap 1000m

COSMONOVA

Joe Pride/Tyler Schiller

Comment: Loomed up to win first-up over 1100m at Warwick Farm but condition probably gave out under 59.5kg on a heavy (8) surface. Plunges 7.5kg in weight here and gets onto a track that will be in the soft range. Looks an appealing each-way hope.

Ipswich Sunday Jun 22

T L Cooney 1350m

FORTUNEER

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: Just off the placegetters in stakes company at Eagle Farm last start. This looks a touch easier and was a winner here last preparation. Should get a favourable run from the draw.
