A quartet of Stakes runners for the Proven team as the QLD Winter Carnival continues at Eagle Farm Saturday.
Lightly raced filly TERANGA (pictured) lines up in the Group 1 QLD Oaks attempting to emulate her mother TINTO who took out the race back in 2014. Like so many horses this autumn, her preparation has been significantly compromised by the abnormal amount of rain this year which has her contesting the race on an unconventional 6 week interval between runs.
The O’Dea/Hoysted team opted to give the filly a short break following her 2nd placing behind stablemate CANADIAN DANCER in the Listed Princess Stakes over 1600m at Doomben on April 23. Then when her intended next run (the Group 2 Roses) was postponed by a week, it was decided to miss that event and to jump her out over 1400m at the Sunshine Coast last week.
Elsewhere on the Eagle Farm programme, smart sprinter CONTEMPTUOUS returns in the Lightning Stakes, the ever consistent STELLAR MAGIC goes for the QLD Day Stakes and SNITZEL filly STROLL takes on her own age and sex in the Listed Bill Carter Stakes.
Meantime at Rosehill, RUBINOCCHI takes on a BM78 Fillies & Mares field at Rosehill with Jay Ford to steer from barrier 2.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Doomben Wednesday June 1
Maiden Plate 1050m:
LIKE A KISS
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd (a)
Comment: Lightly raced filly who has always shown above average ability. She didn’t handle Ipswich on debut last year and has matured significantly since then.
Warwick Farm Wednesday June 1
2YO Maiden Handicap 1100m:
CHILLI JAM
Joe Pride/Tyler Schiller (a)
Comment: First starter who’s shown talent at the trials but will need to bring that to raceday conditions on a heavy (10) surface.
Wyong Thursday June 2
Maiden Handicap 1600m:
FORTIVACI
Joe Pride/Tyler Schiller (a)
Comment: Expect this horse to lead or be up on the speed after missing the jump last run. Up in distance now, he needs to show something.
Sunshine Coast Friday June 3
BM85 Handicap 1200m:
BETTER GET SET
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd (a)
Comment: A tragedy beaten last start when the leader shifted and impeded her run to the line. This looks a very attractive race for her to bounce back.
Rosehill Saturday June 4
BM72 Handicap 1200m:
RUBINOCCHI
Joe Pride/Alysha Collett
Comment: Just tired late in stakes company last time after jumping from out wide. Drawn a much more favourable gate here and will appreciate this drop in class.
Eagle Farm Saturday June 4
Group 1 Queensland Oaks 2200m:
TERANGA
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Kerrin McEvoy
Comment: Well bred filly with a stakes placing to her name already. Looks a natural stayer but would prefer a softer track.
Listed Bill Carter Stakes 1200m:
STROLL
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Kerrin McEvoy
Comment: No luck at all first-up when back in a slowly run race on a very heavy surface at the Gold Coast. Promising filly expected to run well back against her own sex.
Listed Lightning Handicap 1000m:
CONTEMPTUOUS
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/William Pike
Comment: Rapidly improving galloper shooting for five straight wins. Loves Eagle Farm and has been training as well as ever in preparation for this.
Listed QLD Day Stakes 1200m:
STELLAR MAGIC
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson
Comment: Caught in the worst part of the track at Scone in Listed company but stuck to the task well, finishing 2.5 lengths from the winner. Yet to miss a top two finish in five runs at Eagle Farm.
