The final week of the 2021-22 racing season will see as many as 12 runners line up for Proven Thoroughbreds.
A litany of placegetters has left the team stuck on 56 winners since June 18 so we are hoping to get back in the winners’ circle before season’s end. That said, it has already been a record-breaking season in terms of prizemoney with our horses banking more than $4.6 million.
Whilst we are on the topic of prizemoney, this week Racing Queensland announced another injection of funds into the Summer Carnival which now tops $22 million, including the Magic Millions Raceday. You can read the full story HERE.
Leading the line this week is SNIPPY FOX (pictured) in the Listed Winter Challenge Stakes (1500m) which was rescheduled from last Saturday after heavy rain forced officials to abandon the meeting.
INVINCIANO tackles the 1400m Open Handicap at Eagle Farm while THINK ABOUT IT and EXTORTIONIST are set to make their debuts at Kembla Grange and the Sunshine Coast respectively.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Doomben Wednesday July 27
3YO BM68 Handicap 1200m:
KARAOKE QUEEN
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson
Comment: Comes back to 1200m after finishing three lengths astern of the winner over 1350m here earlier this month. Was placed over this track and distance prior to that so is in the mix again.
Eagle Farm Saturday July 30
Open Handicap 1400m:
INVINCIANO
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson
Comment: She was always going to find the 1200m a bit sharp last time and that was the case. Up to 1400m now she can take up a more prominent role and wouldn’t surprise to see her in the finish.
Class 6 Handicap 1000m:
RED RUBI
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Samantha Collett
Comment: Races well fresh over 1000m but yet to win at Eagle Farm in two attempts so hoping the track isn’t too firm for her.
QTIS 3YO Handicap 1400m:
THATFEELSBETTER
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson
Comment: Consistent type who got a bit lost behind runners last start here over 1200m. Much better suited over the 1400m, having been beaten a whisker over this course and distance in May.
Rosehill Saturday July 30
Listed Winter Challenge 1500m:
SNIPPY FOX
Joe Pride/Tyler Schiller
Comment: Chased home the smart WAIHAHA FALLS over 1200m at Randwick second-up and will appreciate stepping up to 1500m. Not well in at the weights but has tactical speed and relishes wet tracks.
Kembla Saturday July 30
CG&E Maiden Plate 1200m:
THINK ABOUT IT
Joe Pride/Rory Hutchings
Comment: Debutant coming off two impressive trials. Has taken a while to get to the races but looks a promising type.
3YO Maiden Plate 1400m:
COOL RECEPTION
Kerry Parker/TBA
Comment: Knocking on the door for a win, having placed in four of her six career runs. Raced a like a horse looking for 1400m last time out and gets that here.
Gold Coast Saturday July 30
QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate 1350m:
GOSSIP COLUMN
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton
Comment: Runner-up in two starts over 1200m this preparation and gives the impression she will relish getting out to this distance. Will make her own luck on pace.
Sunshine Coast Sunday July 31
QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate 1000m:
CLASSIC BOOM
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Slow maturing filly who has shown ability at the trials. This looks a suitable starting point to her career.
EXTORTIONIST
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Set to make his long awaited debut after a couple of set backs. Beautifully bred and looks above average based on his trial performances.
QTIS 3YO BM65 1400m:
COME CLEAN
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Filly who has placed in her last four runs and strikes a winnable race here. Perhaps can be ridden closer up to this distance.
QTIS 2YO Handicap 1000m/QTIS 2YO Maiden Plate 1000m:
UNDERHAND
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Very green on debut but stuck on resolutely to hold second. That was on the poly surface and gets on turf for the first time so will be interesting to see if she improves.
