A rare victory on a Monday at Warwick made it 9 winners in 27 days for Proven Thoroughbreds.
Most of our stock tend to race from Wednesday to Saturday but tough gelding HANG FIVE looked particularly well placed in a Class 3 earlier this week.
He continued what has been a stellar month for Proven Thoroughbreds with winners across three states. We’ve seen the black and lime colours in the winners’ circle at Randwick and Rosehill, down the straight at Flemington as well as country Queensland.
The Rosehill winner IN FLIGHT has struck a rich vein of form, saluting at three of her last four outings. She currently leads the NSW BOBS Premiership and trainer Joe Pride plans to give the filly at least one more chance to build on that lead before season’s end.
Meanwhile, one of our stable jockeys in Queensland, apprentice Emily Lang, will be shooting for her first Saturday metropolitan success when she partners promising filly TERMAGANT (pictured) over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast’s feature meeting.

SIRE ON FIRE – DEEP FIELD
Had 5 winners across 4 states in Australia on Saturday. WHISTLEFIELD at Caulfield, MAGIC FIELD at Morphettville, DANCE BOSS over in WA at Belmont Park and the smart DEPTH OF CHARACTER at Eagle Farm was supported in Queensland by the win of VELOCE METEOR at the Gold Coast. DEEP FIELD is the sire of our best chance this week – TERMAGANT at the Sunshine Coast’s Saturday fixture.
BLACK BOOKER – TAKE A BOW
Smart juvenile that posted a brilliant 3.5L win on debut last Saturday running faster time than the 3YO maiden. Has scope for improvement and this was a nice confidence booster to progress towards better races over the winter months.
BET WITH NIC
Our resident times analyst Nic Ashman is taking a place double at Flemington for ‘Finals Day’.
“STEEL RUN [R6] was super through the line last start when taken back from a wide gate while RIGHT TO PARTY was huge down the straight last start and relishes these gaps between runs. Both can win but are in hot fields so the $3.10 for the place double appeals.”
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Kembla Grange Thursday July 4
Super Maiden Plate 1200m
OTONO
Joe Pride/Leeshelle Small (a)
Comment: On debut. Both trials in town have been ok for a horse we feel will be much better under race conditions and over ground. Can win if she handles the heavy track.
Goulburn Friday July 5
Maiden Plate 1600m
AQUATICA
Kerry Parker/Shaun Guymer
Comment: Ordinary run first-up but previous form is better than that. Did improve sharply second-up last prep and will appreciate getting out to a mile.
Sunshine Coast Saturday July 6
3YO Handicap 1000m
TERMAGANT
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Emily Lang (a)
Comment: Highly progressive type that trialled exceptionally well before winning over this track and distance first-up. Clocked the best last 800m and 600m of the meeting there and looks very well in at the weights.
Toowoomba Saturday July 6
Class 1 Handicap 1000m
SHOT OF WHISKEY
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Resumes off a long break but has a class edge here and won a recent trial. If he runs to his best he should be hard to beat but can mix his form.
Wyong Saturday July 6
Super Maiden Handicap 1350m
ELLE HUDSON
Joe Pride/TBA
Comment: Kiwi import who raced as though he was looking for further than 1200m at his Aussie debut. Gets that now so look for improvement.
BM64 Handicap 1350m
LICHESTER
Kerry Parker/TBA
Comment: Got back on a tempo where they went 12L slower than benchmark through the first 700m making it very difficult for her to figure in the finish. Her last 200m was the 7th fastest for the meeting and we expect her to improve up in trip with more speed on.
