With only a trio of NSW runners to hoist the Proven flag this week, the onus will be on the seven QLD entrants to keep the black and lime green in the limelight. And what a July it’s been!
Nine winners and (hopefully counting!) for the month so the Matt Hoysted stable’s three runners on their home track at Wednesday’s Metropolitan Season Finale, can ideally add to that.
Last start winner LOVE REBEL is arguably the best of the week although Joe Pride’s dour stayer ELLE HUDSON has found an especially thin race at the midweek Randwick-Kensington meeting. It’s most unusual to land in a metropolitan BM72 Handicap where the highest rated horse is only 67, even when it’s an off season 2400m event.
The Pride stable also saddles recent maiden graduate PROXIMA CENTAURI at either Newcastle Saturday or Wyong Sunday.
Our Saturday contingent of runners is headed by TOWN CRIER at Doomben. The tough on-pacer can take his career earnings past $350,000 with victory in the 1110m Open Handicap.
With the current racing season due to conclude on Friday, a full review of the 2025-26 season will be published on the following Monday.

A sire on the up, having bagged 11 winners in July including a trio of stakes winners; CELLARMASTER in the Group 3 Winx Guineas, ACTIONBELLE in the Listed Castletown in NZ and last weekend CAVALRY GIRL’S triumph in the Lightning at Morphettville.

Lightly raced, beautifully bred rising 4yo who’s about to be gelded after again throwing away his chances on Saturday at Kembla. Over raced but still fought hard in his final run as an entire. Look for him over the summer with a new status!
