A relatively quiet week for the Proven Thoroughbreds team as we enter the final fortnight of season 2022-23.

Runners over the next seven days will be limited to our Queensland base, starting with ZOOCUPOLA at Ipswich on Wednesday. The son of ZOUSTAR is coming off a game second placing at Eagle Farm on July 5 when resuming from a spell.

Then on Saturday, seasoned performer CONTEMPTUOUS (pictured) lines up in the 1200m Open Handicap. 3YOs AFFECTIONATE and CHAIRLIFT round out the week’s runners at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

Meanwhile, stakes winning mare BETTER GET SET is being prepared for a 1400m Open Handicap at Eagle Farm on August 5, following her courageous 5th in the Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton last week.

Earlier this month we announced a date for our inaugural Open Day with trainer Kerry Parker. All are welcome at Kerry’s Kembla Grange stables from 10.45am on Sunday July 30.

A multiple Group 1 winning trainer in the last five years, Kerry is vastly underrated. As such, his select stable represents great opportunity for Proven clients and we look forward to a long association in much the same manner as the relationships we’ve carved out with the O’Dea/Hoysted team and Joe Pride. Yearlings by SO YOU THINK, CAPITALIST, ALMANZOR & SAXON WARRIOR will be paraded as well as stable stars THINK IT OVER & HOPE IN YOUR HEART. To register your attendance please get in touch via our CONTACT US page.

BLACK BOOKER

RUBINOCCHI showed she lost nothing during her injury enforced break when resuming with a gutsy 4th in the 1000m BM78 at Randwick last Saturday. The rising 5YO mare will be much improved for that run and will be in with a big shout wherever she runs next.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Ipswich Wednesday July 19

BM65 Handicap 1200m

ZOOCUPOLA

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: Stuck on well for runner-up honours at Eagle Farm over 1000m first-up. Sure to be improved for the run and drawn favourably.

Doomben Saturday July 22

Open Handicap 1200m

CONTEMPTUOUS

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Placed at big odds first-up behind PRINCE OF BOOM and FAR TOO EASY in the Group 2 Moreton Cup then ran below expectations when riding a hot speed in the Group 3 Healey Stakes. Kept a month between runs for this and generally races best when fresh. Can bounce back.

Sunshine Coast Sunday July 23

Maiden Plate 1400m

CHAIRLIFT

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: First-starter. Hasn’t shown up at the trials but is bred to get over a bit of ground so hoping she can hit the line strongly over 1400m.

QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate 1600m

AFFECTIONATE

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Looks ready for the mile now after finishing just off the placegetters first-up over 1400m. Her run at Eagle Farm last November when fourth behind subsequent stakes winner TAPILDOODLEDO is more than good enough to be figuring in the finish of this race.
