Following a gala tri-state treble last weekend, Proven Thoroughbreds is hoping to continue that momentum into the final fortnight of season 2024-25.
Proven’s seasonal winner tally was elevated to 59 after a weekend that saw IN FLIGHT complete a rare three state stakes treble in the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield, KING’S SECRET take BOBS Horse Of The Year honours with victory at Randwick, and MELTDOWN break his maiden at the Sunshine Coast.
Proven is now only two wins adrift of the record number of winners in a season, set in 2023-24.
However with only three runners set to face the starter this week, the pressure is on. ACCREDITED (pictured) is currently second favourite in the Listed Winter Challenge (1500m) at Rosehill while LITTLE COINTREAU and TOWN CRIER also present as each way chances at Rosehill and Eagle Farm respectively.
Nic Ashman’s SECTIONALS REVIEW and SATURDAY TIP articles are currently in hiatus until Group 1 racing resumes next month.

SIRE ON FIRE – SHALAA
It’s been a memorable month so far for this Woodside Park stallion with 13 winners in 16 days including last Wednesday’s Ramornie Handicap winner SHA OF GOMER and Proven’s rapidly improving gelding and BOBS Horse Of The Year KING’S SECRET. He also managed a stakes placing last weekend with RECOMMENDATION.
BLACK BOOKER – ELLE HUDSON
Second-up at Canterbury over 1550m, this Joe Pride-trained gelding was working into the race ominously when a riderless horse carted him off the track and destroyed any hopes of victory. The son of TARZINO ran on into sixth but rider Alysha Collett was adamant he should have at least run top three. He heads back to Canterbury next Wednesday and it wouldn’t surprise to see him winning.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Rosehill Saturday Jul 19
L Winter Challenge 1500m
ACCREDITED
Joe Pride/Alysha Collett
Comment: Gets back onto his preferred drier surface after appearing to have every chance in the Winter Stakes (1400m), albeit on a leader-biased track here a fortnight ago. Meets the winner 3.5kg better at the weights so must be included again. Small query going to 1500m for the first time in his career.
BM88 Handicap 1300m

LITTLE COINTREAU
Joe Pride/Andrew Adkins
Comment: Continues to race well without winning. Form around him has stacked up since the start of the preparation so surely gets his turn soon. Up in grade here but plunges 5kg in weight which could make all the difference given he’s carried between 58kg and 60kg in all six previous runs this campaign.
Eagle Farm Saturday Jul 19
BM78 Handicap 1200m

TOWN CRIER
Joe Pride/Luke Dempsey
Comment: Resuming. Won first-up in BM70 company with Dempsey aboard last preparation. Hasn’t raced at Eagle Farm in 18 months but was a sound second on that occasion. Drawn the middle here and can make his own luck on speed.
