The Magic Millions Sale on the Gold Coast is in full swing but Proven still has one eye on the racetrack with a host of strong chances set to face the starter this week.
Matt Hoysted saddles up a trio of runners in the black and lime green at Eagle Farm on Wednesday. Both TERMAGANT and OCEAN ZAR look ready to win and not surprisingly are well found in betting markets.
But our best chance of the week is probably ELLE HUDSON (pictured). The Joe Pride-trained stayer tackles a 1900m Class 1 & Maiden Plate at Newcastle on Friday having run a slashing second over a mile at Wyong on New Year’s Eve.
As for the sales ring, we have been active as usual and you can follow all of our Magic Millions purchases HERE.

SIRE ON FIRE – WOOTTON BASSETT
Continues to get winners all over the world and can add another feather in his cap with the second favourite (GALLO NERO) for Saturday’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
BLACK BOOKER – COSMONOVA
Tried hard first-up at Randwick last Saturday when beating all bar WITH YOUR BLESSING. That winner was less than a length off OPAL RIDGE in stakes company last preparation so that formline reads well for another BM78. It was also a less than ideal lead-up given she had to be scratched after going off in the gates at Warwick Farm last month.
BET WITH NIC
Our times analyst Nic Ashman is currently on annual leave so his popular weekly tip as well as his audio previews for owners is on hiatus until the end of the month.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Eagle Farm Wednesday January 8
Maiden Plate 1200m
ROCK THE SUNRISE
Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton
Comment: First-up and drawn awkwardly so prefer to wait until he gets over a touch further. That said his only run to date was an eye-catching 4th over this distance so has some each way claims.
BM70 Handicap 1000m
TERMAGANT
Matt Hoysted/Damian Lane
Comment: Resuming. Three-time winner from only five starts that looks extremely well placed in this company. Justified favourite and has the services of one of the best jockeys in the country.
BM68 Handicap 1400m
OCEAN ZAR
Matt Hoysted/Jasper Franklin (a3)
Comment: Didn’t handle the wet two starts back but still chased resolutely behind a subsequent stakes winner. Then went to the Gold Coast and was doing her best work late from a wide gate. Ready now and gets back to her preferred track.
Orange Friday January 10
Maiden Plate 1400m
OTONO
Joe Pride/James Innes Jnr
Comment: Ran on into fifth first-up over 1200m and can only improve rising to 1400m second-up. Drops in grade too so should get her chance to break through.
Newcastle Friday January 10
Class 1 & Maiden Plate 1900m
ELLE HUDSON
Joe Pride/Alysha Collett
Comment: Promising stayer building nicely this preparation. Gets to a distance he should relish and gives the impression he’s much better than Class 1/Maiden company.
