Five runners will represent Proven Thoroughbreds this week as we roll into the next sale of 2024 – the NZB Karaka Yearling Sale.

Inspections are well underway at Karaka with the first lot set to go under the hammer on Sunday.

Back in Australia however, it is business as usual with runners from all three of our stables – Joe Pride, Steve O’Dea/Matt Hoysted, and Kerry Parker.

One horse of particular interest is the Pride-trained ICONIC TREASURE, who makes his long awaited debut at Wyong on Sunday following a long term injury. Similarly, stablemate UNHOLSTERED is on the comeback trail from injury and is scheduled to race at Goulburn on Tuesday.

BLACK BOOKER

OCEAN ZAR fell victim to a wide gate and slow tempo first-up at Doomben but really caught the eye late in third. Not surprisingly, she was the only horse in the race to break 34 seconds for her last 600m (33.78). Should pay to follow next start, ideally over 1300m/1400m on a bigger track.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Gosford Wednesday January 24

Maiden Plate 1600m

AQUATICA

Joe Pride/Rory Hutchings

Comment: Gets out to a suitable trip now following two sound runs over 1300m and 1400m. May still be lacking that killer instinct but this isn’t a strong field and gets blinkers on first time.

Eagle Farm Friday January 26

QTIS 3YO Fillies Maiden Plate 1200m

TRAVIATA

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Wanted to hang in the run home when first-up on a heavy (8). Fitter for that and gets a much improved surface here but needs to start delivering on her promise.

Newcastle Saturday January 27

Provincial BM64 Handicap 1400m

LICHESTER

Kerry Parker/TBA

Comment: Surprise last start winner when back in trip and having her first start for this stable. Finds another attractive race and the 1400m suits.

Wyong Sunday January 28

CG&E Maiden Plate 1200m

ICONIC TREASURE

Joe Pride/TBA

Comment: Makes his long awaited debut after injury delayed the start to his career. Fitted with three trials off a long break, the latest of which he came wide in a slowly run heat but was solid through the line.

Goulburn Tuesday January 30

Maiden Plate 1200m

UNHOLSTERED

Joe Pride/TBA

Comment: Back from a lengthy injury-enforced lay-off. Has been given three trials this time in so should be fit enough to run well in this company.
