A trio of runners for Proven Thoroughbreds this week as we prepare for another blockbuster Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
The sale kicks off at 12pm local time on Tuesday and will span seven consecutive days. More than 1200 lots are set go through the ring and as always we will be scouring the catalogue for buying opportunities.
It is expected to be another strong market but with these kinds of numbers, value can always be found. At the end of the day, the yearling market is much like betting markets, if you can identify what constitutes value then you will succeed in the long run.
Last week we published a story that outlined 5 reasons to buy with Proven this Magic Millions. Read them HERE.
Headlining our racetrack representatives this week is the old warrior SCALLOPINI (pictured), who tackles Saturday’s $1 million Snippets (1200m) at the Gold Coast first-up from a spell. The 7YO gelding has been trialling well this time in and goes into the race with an outstanding fresh record of four wins and two placings from nine attempts.
Last Saturday saw our promising filly STROLL finish an excellent third in the Aquis Gold Pearl (1100m). She will head for a break now and be set for a Brisbane winter campaign that will hopefully culminate in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) at Eagle Farm.

JUST A TIFF – Ran on well to grab fourth when first-up at Gosford over 1100m. Still lacks race experience but that was by far his best run in three to date and with natural improvement it could pay to follow him next start.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Kilcoy Thursday January 13
BM58 Handicap 800m:
TRIP THE LIGHT
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Zac Lloyd
Comment: Yet to win first-up but has been in the money three out of four times. Been placed well throughout her career and gets in well after the claim of Zac Lloyd here.
Gold Coast Saturday January 15
MM Snippets 1200m:
SCALLOPINI
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton
Comment: Never easy in a million dollar race but he’s an accomplished veteran that will be in the finish if the speed is on early. Desperately unlucky in this race two years ago.
Sunshine Coast Sunday January 16
F&M Class 1 Handicap 1000m:
SALTOREE
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton
Comment: Finished runner-up in both 1000m fresh runs to date and this looks an attractive first-up option. Still lightly-raced for a 4YO mare and could well improve this preparation.
