Magic Millions 2023 is in full swing with Proven Thoroughbreds active on the sales and racing front.

While bidding continues at the Magic Millions Bundall complex, Proven has a swathe of runners including a trio of representatives at the lucrative Magic Millions Saturday fixture.

STROLL lines up in the $2 million MM Guineas (1425m), while SCALLOPINI and CONTEMPTUOUS will contest the $1 million Syndicate (1200m).

But before the Gold Coast’s biggest meeting of the year, one of Proven’s most promising horses – THINK ABOUT IT – will resume at Warwick Farm’s Wednesday card for Joe Pride.

Hopefully we can have some joy both ringside and trackside this week to set the tone for another bumper year!

BLACK BOOKER

OCEAN ZAR did a terrific job on debut, finishing a narrow second at Eagle Farm last week. First-up over 1200m on a big track was a fair ask for this 3YO filly but she rose to the challenge and only fell just short. She’s gone out for a spell now and will benefit from more time out in the paddock to grow and mature. One to watch next preparation for sure.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Doomben Wednesday Jan 11

F&M Maiden Plate 1200m:

CLASSIC BOOM

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: Been prominent in recent trials and finds a suitable maiden to kick off her preparation. With natural improvement from her last campaign, would like to think she will be a winning chance in this.

BM75 Handicap 1640m:

TERANGA

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd

Comment: Got back and over-racing when second-up over a mile last start. Will strip fitter and stays at the distance which should suit. However will need to overcome a tricky draw.

F&M Class 1 Handicap 1350m:

GAP YEAR

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: Desperately unlucky first-up when rattling home into third at the Sunshine Coast last month. Freshened up for this and can atone from a favourable draw.

Warwick Farm Wednesday Jan 11

BM72 Handicap 1200m:

THINK ABOUT IT

Joe Pride/Sam Clipperton

Comment: Highly promising galloper resuming in his second campaign. Will be better over further but hoping class will carry him to victory here.

Gold Coast Saturday Jan 14

Magic Millions 3YO Guineas 1425m:

STROLL

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Craig Williams

Comment: No luck last time when lost all momentum at a crucial stage. Drawn to effect and will have no problems at the trip.

Magic Millions The Syndicate 1200m:

CONTEMPTUOUS

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Craig Williams

Comment: Consistent sprinter who has steadily climbed through the grades. Acquitted himself well in stakes company last start, finishing a game second to GARIBALDI. Can figure with luck in running.

SCALLOPINI

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Craig Williams

Comment: Beautifully placed under the weight for age conditions and always pulls out a run fresh. Drawn well and beat SPIRITUALISED in a recent trial.

Warwick Saturday Jan 14

Maiden Handicap 1200m:

GOSSIP COLUMN

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Emily Lang (a)

Comment: Drops in grade after disappointing as favourite first-up at the Sunshine Coast. Two city placings over this distance says she can bounce back.
