Magic Millions and Karaka are now in the books as we turn our attention to the Inglis Classic Sale which commences on Sunday.

The best part of 800 yearlings have descended on the Inglis Riverside complex with pre-sale inspections well underway. As usual, we have been busy compiling a shortlist in conjunction with our trainers Joe Pride, Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted, and Kerry Parker.

On the racing front, we were delighted to see TERMAGANT break her maiden in dominant fashion at the Sunshine Coast on Friday. She is the second foal from our fondly remembered stakes winner CANDIKA, who sadly died in 2022.

This week, our best chance appears to be OCEAN ZAR, who lines up at Eagle Farm’s midweek meeting following an excellent first-up run at Doomben last month.

And in other news, we are delighted to announce Blake Shinn as the jockey for PRIVATE EYE in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on Saturday week. Nash Rawiller, who has been riding ‘Spade’ in his trials, is committed to riding at Randwick on the same day as he has aspirations of winning the Sydney Jockeys Premiership.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Eagle Farm Wednesday February 7

BM65 Handicap 1400m

OCEAN ZAR

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: Looks beautifully placed second-up after running home powerfully first-up at Doomben. Drawn to get a sweet run and is a winner over this track and distance.

Wyong Thursday February 8

CG&E Maiden Handicap 1100m

BOTTLER

Joe Pride/Jay Ford

Comment: On debut. Slow maturing type probably looking for a touch further on a bigger track but is ready to be tested under race conditions.

Canberra Friday February 2

BM70 Handicap 1600m

LICHESTER

Kerry Parker/Brock Ryan

Comment: Wasn’t suited to the sit and sprint nature of her last race but tried hard right to the line, finishing only a length and a half from the winner. Gets back out to a mile now which looks to be within her scope.

Doomben Saturday February 10

Class 3 Handicap 1200m

NAVAL TRADER

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Justin Huxtable

Comment: First-up since September. Yet to finish out of the money in seven career outings but has a wide gate to contend with.

Nowra Sunday February 11

Maiden Handicap 1200m

ICONIC TREASURE

Joe Pride/TBA

Comment: Very game on debut when third over 1200m at Wyong. Showed good early speed and a genuine desire to compete at the business end of the race. Can only improve off that.
