This Saturday marks the return of talented mare THE BLACK CLOUD and a chance at redemption for the luckless TERMAGANT.

The Joe Pride-trained THE BLACK CLOUD (pictured) lines up in the 1000m BM94 Handicap at Randwick, a race that will go a long way to determining her autumn carnival targets.

Meanwhile at Doomben, TERMAGANT will be out to bury some demons after suffering one of the unluckiest defeats you will ever see at the Sunshine Coast last month.

TERMAGANT’s trainer Matt Hoysted has a couple of other Proven mares engaged this week including the in-form HEYOKA, who will be chasing three consecutive wins when she heads to the Gold Coast’s Saturday fixture.

On the sales circuit, inspections are well underway at Riverside ahead of the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale which commences this Sunday from 10am.

Information on all of Proven’s recent acquisitions can be viewed on our AVAILABLE HORSES page.

SIRE ON FIRE – SNITZEL

He turns 23 this year but is still churning out feature winners for fun. Last weekend he produced a pair of juvenile Group 3 winners in BLITZBURG and RETURN TO CONQUER, elevating his tally of individual stakes winners for the season to 11, at least three more than any rival in Australasia.

BLACK BOOKER – WILD THOUGHTS

A very sound debut by this son of SO YOU THINK. Tackled 1300m and more experienced rivals on his home track of Kembla but acquitted himself well to finish an eye-catching third. He’s gone out for a spell now but will be one to watch when comes back as a bigger, stronger 3yo.

BET WITH NIC

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Ipswich Wednesday February 5

BM70 Handicap 1100m

SHOT OF WHISKEY

Matt Hoysted/Jasper Franklin (a3)

Comment: Came of age last preparation, winning three races and placing in another. Ran second at only run here last August and is two from three when first-up.

Randwick Saturday February 8

BM94 Handicap 1000m

THE BLACK CLOUD

Joe Pride/Jay Ford

Comment: Talented mare resuming. Drawn well in four and is two from three fresh, including a dominant victory over this track and distance last May. Needs to be prominent here if she’s going to measure up in better races during the autumn.

Doomben Saturday February 8

Class 3 Plate 1110m

TERMAGANT

Matt Hoysted/Nikita Beriman

Comment: She was an absolute tragedy beaten last time after being chopped out of a run at a crucial point. She’s flying and can hopefully atone from a good gate here.

Gold Coast Saturday February 8

BM65 Handicap 1200m

HEYOKA

Matt Hoysted/Jasper Franklin (a1.5)

Comment: Shooting for a hat-trick of wins for the preparation. Been well placed in two runs back so needs to improve again here but showed a great deal of determination to get the job done last month. Each-way.

QTIS 3YO BM65 Handicap 1000m

TAKE A BOW

Matt Hoysted/Justin Stanley

Comment: Hasn’t had things go to plan in two runs back this time in, mainly due to slow getaways and poor barriers. Can put her best foot forward if she begins well here.
