Exciting mare TERMAGANT headlines Proven Thoroughbreds’ runners this week.
The lightly-raced 4yo tackles a Class 6 Plate at Eagle Farm on Saturday, looking to enhance her already imposing record of eight starts for four wins and three seconds.
Trainer Matt Hoysted has another promising upcoming runner in the shape of ROCK THE SUNRISE. The 3yo gelding has finished first and second at his two most recent starts and can put his hand up for some 3yo feature races over the winter with victory at Doomben on Wednesday.
The sales circuit moves to Melbourne this Sunday for the Inglis Premier auction where inspections are in full-swing. The Premier Sale has been a happy hunting ground for us in the past with recent purchases like COSMONOVA, ACCREDITED and of course our 2023 Everest champion THINK ABOUT IT.
Meanwhile we have also rolled out a new weekly segment called SECTIONALS REVIEW, authored by our form analyst Nic Ashman. The article will appear every Tuesday morning during carnival periods, summarising the weekend’s racing.
Information on all of Proven’s 2025 yearlings can be viewed on our AVAILABLE HORSES page.

SIRE ON FIRE – TOO DARN HOT
Appropriately, TOO DARN HOT is indeed on fire. A trio of stakes winners and two stakes placegetters from his 3yo crop completed a remarkable day for the stallion on Saturday. A real shame he won’t be returning to Australian shores this year…
BLACK BOOKER – ICONIC TREASURE
This Joe Pride-trained gelding resumed at Canterbury last Friday over 1100m. He settled last in a slowly run race making it tough for him to figure. His last 600m ranked 5th for the meeting and this lays a lovely platform for him to progress off. A similar race next start over a touch further should see him go close.
BET WITH NIC
Our times analyst Nic Ashman will be publishing his popular best bet for Saturday’s racing on Friday.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Doomben Wednesday February 26
3YO BM65 Handicap 1650m
ROCK THE SUNRISE
Matt Hoysted/Vlad Duric
Comment: Excellent in defeat in Saturday company last start where they thrashed third. Does have a tricky gate with the rail out but if he gets an ounce of luck, he will take some beating.
Wyong Thursday February 27
Class 1 Handicap 1600m

OTONO
Kerry Parker/Jay Ford
Comment: Disappointing last start when fourth as favourite. The run prior to that she broke her maiden over 1400m in country grade. Kept on the fresh side for this and doesn’t face an overly strong field here.
Sunshine Coast Friday February 28
Class 2 Handicap 1400m

MOONFLEET
Matt Hoysted/Nikita Beriman
Comment: Started favourite first-up at the Sunshine Coast and got going late to finish third. Never seemed to travel over the 1200m so should appreciate the easier tempo of 1400m here and has drawn well.
Eagle Farm Saturday March 1
BM78 Handicap 1400m

HANG FIVE
Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton
Comment: Comes off a solid first-up outing at Ipswich where he got within two lengths of the winner over 1200m. Much better suited up to 1400m and is a two-time winner second-up.
Class 6 Plate 1200m

TERMAGANT
Matt Hoysted/Nikita Beriman
Comment: Explosive win last start at Doomben, following a luckless runner-up finish at the Sunshine Coast. Looks to be in the zone now and is beautifully placed here with 55kg. Rises to 1200m for the first time in her eight-start career, but hard not to see her relishing it.
