The old warrior STOCKMAN returns for his 10th racing campaign at Rosehill this Saturday.
The 51-start veteran lines up in the 1400m BM100 Handicap in which he will carry a hefty impost of 62.5kg, owing to his longevity more than anything else.
STOCKMAN will likely need the run anyway as trainer Joe Pride prepares him for long distance races over the Sydney autumn carnival such as the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m).
Pride will also saddle up last start winner ICONIC TREASURE at Canberra and eye-catching debutant BOTTLER at Newcastle on Monday.
Meanwhile in the sunshine state, CONTEMPTUOUS will be chasing his 8th career win at Doomben’s Saturday meeting.

BLACK BOOKER
HOOD RIVER gave a good sight first-up over 1300m on a wet track but just tired over the concluding stages of the race. Being a big gross mare, she was always going to need the run so expecting her to improve significantly fitness wise wherever she goes second-up.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Ipswich Wednesday February 21
Maiden Plate 1350m
TRAVIATA
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Nikita Beriman
Comment: Ready to fire third-up but will need her fair share of luck from the outside draw around Ipswich. Hoping the speed is genuine and she can slot in midfield which should give her a winning chance.
Wyong Thursday February 22
Maiden Plate 1300m
UNHOLSTERED
Joe Pride/Reece Jones
Comment: Only got warm late over 1250m at Canterbury when first-up from a long injury-enforced break. Fitter and extra 50m helps but may need one more to hit his top.
Canberra Friday February 23
Class 1 Handicap 1200m
ICONIC TREASURE
Joe Pride/Nick Heywood
Comment: Tough last start winner attempting to make the notoriously difficult leap from maiden to class 1 company. Drawn the middle and should be peaking fitness wise third-up from a long lay-off.
Rosehill Saturday February 24
BM100 Handicap 1400m
STOCKMAN
Joe Pride/Reece Jones
Comment: Veteran stayer likely to get his preferred wet track here but has a big weight and is looking for much further than this.
Doomben Saturday February 24
Open Handicap 1200m
CONTEMPTUOUS
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton
Comment: Consistent type coming off a strong trial win since having no luck in The Syndicate during the Magic Millions carnival. Has come up with barrier three and looks well placed back to an open handicap.
Gold Coast Saturday February 24
QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap 1050m
JET STREAM
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Very green on debut when a fast finishing fourth at Ipswich before running a close up third as an easing favourite at Gatton last month. Rises to 1050m now which should suit.
Newcastle Monday February 26
CG&E Maiden Plate 1150m
BOTTLER
Joe Pride/Jay Ford
Comment: Excellent second on debut at Wyong when circling the field. Expecting him to improve significantly off that which gives him a strong winning hope in this.
