After a short summer hiatus, The Week Ahead returns with up to seven Proven horses set to face the starter.

One particular runner of interest is the debutante TERANGA (pictured). A daughter of SEBRING from Group 1 winner TINTO, she is due to have her first start at the Gold Coast’s Saturday fixture, having trialled impressively during the week for Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted.

This weekend will also see the commencement of the 2022 Inglis Classic Sale for which pre-sale inspections have already begun. As always, Proven will be active at this sale with a focus on the Joe Pride stable in Sydney.

Recent results have been very positive for the black and lime green colours. Among our winners in the past week was veteran campaigner SCALLOPINI, who claimed his second Sunshine Coast Cup (1400m) for team O’Dea and Hoysted. Now a three-time stakes winner, the son of SNITZEL became Proven’s most prolific winner with 10 first-place finishes in 32 starts.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Ipswich Wednesday February 2

Maiden Plate 1350m:

CANADIAN DANCER

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: Promising filly who has finished runner-up in both starts to date. Resumes here off the back of some impressive showings at the trials. Will need a touch of luck around Ipswich but has the services of a top rider.

BM68 Handicap 800m:

TRIP THE LIGHT

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: Nothing went right when first-up over this trip. She was knocked from pillar to post but came through the race without issue. Excels at this track and is a two-time winner second-up.

Gold Coast Saturday February 5

BM58 Handicap 1100m:

SALTOREE

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Sound enough first-up at the Sunshine Coast. Tends to improve second-up and this looks a drop in class from her last start.

QTIS 3YO Handicap 1400m:

TERANGA

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Michael Hellyer

Comment: On debut. Produced a smart trial on Tuesday morning and although bred to get over further, it certainly wouldn’t surprise to see her win here.

Doomben Saturday February 5

F&M NMW Handicap 1110m:

RICH LISTER

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd

Comment: Consistent mare resuming from a break. Has the advantage of barrier one here and was an impressive trial winner last month.

BM78 Handicap 1615m:

OCEAN TREATY

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd

Comment: Scratched last Saturday due to the wet track. Is a two-time winner second-up and will appreciate getting out to a mile. Has a great association with Ben Thompson too (3 wins from 4 starts).
