The Queensland summer carnival returns to Eagle Farm this Saturday where Proven Thoroughbreds has another two feature race runners.

Proven and O’Dea-Hoysted Racing almost snared a stakes double at Doomben last Saturday with STROLL (1st Mode Stakes) and CONTEMPTUOUS (2nd George Moore Stakes).

This weekend the stable will produce CANADIAN DANCER (pictured) in the $250,000 Gateway (1400m) and BETTER GET SET in the Listed Just Now Stakes (1300m). The former will be looking to gain ballot exemption from next year’s Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) which had its prizemoney doubled to $3 million by Racing Queensland this week.

While the latter is chasing her first slice of black type, having won her last two starts in impressive fashion.

Should CANADIAN DANCER or BETTER GET SET salute on Saturday, it will represent Proven’s 10th feature race success this year.

Our current tally of 9 accounts for 25% of our total wins in 2022! An incredible achievement that is testament to the skill and work ethic of our trainers and their staff.

Another highlight runner this week is CHILLI JAM. The Joe Pride-trained filly produced an eye-catching run at Canterbury first-up last month and has been entered for both Canterbury’s Friday night meeting and Kembla’s Saturday fixture in search of her maiden win.

BLACK BOOKER

SLIPSTREAMING was very green on debut at Gosford but love the way she hit the line. She’s bred to run an Oaks trip so was never going to be suited over 1200m around a tight track but she acquitted herself well. Trainer Joe Pride has been patient with this filly and believes we will see a much improved horse next preparation.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Kembla Grange Saturday Dec 10

Maiden Handicap 1200m:

CHILLI JAM

Joe Pride/Alysha Collett

Comment: Excellent first-up run in city company a fortnight back when forced to settle further back than desired from a wide gate. Fitter and extra 150m in distance will suit her down to the ground.

Provincial Maiden Plate 1500m:

ROGUE ARTIST

Kerry Parker/Lee Magorrian

Comment: Debutant who has been run off his feet in 800m trials. The slower tempo of 1500m should give him a chance to balance up and go through his gears. Too early to draw any conclusions on his ability but would like to see him run on.

Eagle Farm Saturday Dec 10

Listed Just Now Stakes 1300m:

BETTER GET SET

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: Deserves a shot at this grade after two strong wins, the latest a Class 6 Plate. Has only finished out of the money once in six runs at Eagle Farm and is at the top of her game.

The Gateway 1400m:

CANADIAN DANCER

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: Wasn’t afforded a great deal of room first-up in the Listed Tatts Classic at the Gold Coast but hit the line strongly to finish 1.6 lengths astern of the winner. Has trained on well since that run and will appreciate getting out to 1400m.
