Eight runners are set to step out for Proven Thoroughbreds this week as we look to build towards a busy summer carnival.
A frustrating sequence of near defeats was snapped last week by our flagship galloper PRIVATE EYE at Rosehill and emerging 3yo filly BREAK FREE at Grafton.
ACCREDITED (pictured), one of our recent unlucky runner-ups, gets the chance to atone in the closer at Warwick Farm on Wednesday while SECOND SUN also looks poised to go one better in an 1800m Class 1 contest at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
As 2024 winds down, Proven is already preparing for next month’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, inspecting 500+ yearlings in the Hunter Valley region. With some 1400 lots catalogued, there will be plenty more horses to see when we arrive on the Gold Coast early in the new year.

SIRE ON FIRE – SNITZEL
It was SNITZEL last week and we so no reason to change it this week. The veteran sire jagged the Sandown Guineas quinella with SNITZANOVA and BITTERCREEK and is also the broodmare sire of the dominant ATC Cup winner FLOATING.
BLACK BOOKER – ELLE HUDSON
Weaved through and hit the line strongly at a rain-sodden Canterbury first-up last week. Given that was his first run since August over an unsuitably short distance (1250m), this NZ import looks every bit a metropolitan class stayer. Looking forward to seeing how far he can progress this time in.
BET WITH NIC
Times analyst Nic Ashman’s popular weekly tip has moved to a separate article that will be published every Thursday on the Proven website. His best bet around the country on Saturday will be revealed plus a link to subscribe to his full package of tips across the metropolitan meetings. His record speaks for itself with 17 collects from 26 selections!
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Warwick Farm Wednesday December 4
BM72 Handicap 1200m
ACCREDITED
Joe Pride/Nash Rawiller
Comment: Desperately unlucky not to win first-up. Brings the best last start rating and best peak rating to this event. Surely this is his day!
Canberra Friday December 6
Maiden Handicap 1000m
MOVER AND SHAKER
Kerry Parker/Lee Magorrian
Comment: Hasn’t shown much in two runs to date so we’re experimenting by dropping her back in trip and let her hit the line. Hard to get enthused on current form but chance to improve sharply.
Gold Coast Saturday December 7
Maiden Handicap 1400m
DEJA ZOU
Matt Hoysted/Simon Miller
Comment: Plain on debut over 1200m clocking a time that was 5L below benchmark average. Will strip fitter and improve out to 1400m but needs to find a few lengths.
Eagle Farm Saturday December 7
BM78 Handicap 1400m
OCEAN ZAR
Matt Hoysted/Nikita Beriman
Comment: Track too wet for her last time out. Will improve sharply back onto drier ground. Barrier a concern but she has placed 5 of 6 this route including 3 wins.
Toowoomba Saturday December 7
Class 1 Handicap 1000m
LEVAR
Matt Hoysted/Dylan Bennett (a3)
Comment: Lost a plate first-up at Warwick when unplaced. Clocked the best last 400/200m of the race when second-up last prep. Improver.
BM60 Handicap 1200m
BOARD MEMBER
Matt Hoysted/Simon Miller
Comment: Terrific win recording as last 200m that was 4L faster than average for the grade. Trialled since to keep up to the mark. Looks hard to beat again.
Sunshine Coast Sunday December 8
Class 1 Plate 1800m
SECOND SUN
Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton
Comment: Almost pinched it last start when run down late by a horse that had an economical run in transit. He had a little gap between runs going into that, now strips fitter. This looks an incredibly suitable race for him.
