A trio of stakes race contenders plus a highly promising 4YO are among Proven Thoroughbreds’ team of runners this week.
Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting will see THINK ABOUT IT’s undefeated record go on the line. The Joe Pride-trained gelding has been dominant in two provincial wins and will need to raise the bar again when he lines up as favourite in the 1300m BM72 event.
Then on Saturday, stablemate STOCKMAN continues his spring cups campaign in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Randwick after running a cracking race first-up in the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) earlier this month.
Meanwhile, another Pride runner, SNIPPY FOX, is set to contest either the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m) at Wyong on Friday or the Listed Tattersalls Members Cup (1350m) at Doomben where a potential clash with the O’Dea/Hoysted-trained INVINCIANO awaits.
The O’Dea/Hoysted team will also be represented at the meeting by last start winner FETCH, who will jump from the inside gate in the 1110m BM78 Handicap.
And if you haven’t already confirmed your attendance for our O’Dea/Hoysted open day on Sunday September 11, please get in touch asap as we are already close to capacity. Details of the event below:

Open Mornings are not surprisingly, very popular as it’s a rare opportunity to check out the coal face in a relaxed environment. Racing stables are generally a hub of activity in the wee hours so to witness the horses in siesta mode, washed down with a hearty brunch in the company of the trainers, staff and like-minded punters, is a great way to kick off your Sunday.

BLACK BOOKER
NAVAL TRADER produced an eye-catching trial at Doomben on Tuesday morning. Despite being initially hesitant to enter the barriers, the unraced son of MERCHANT NAVY was the ultimate professional in the run, mustering speed to sit in the leaders’ slipstream before taking a narrow gap between horses to win the heat under minimal pressure.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Ipswich Wednesday Aug 31
QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap 1200m:
BETTER YET
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton
Comment: Sound on debut and will have taken natural improvement from the outing but may face a task coming back in trip with the rail out.
Class 4 Handicap 1100m:
RICH LISTER
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Kyle Wilson-Taylor
Comment: Copped a head knock in the gates and raced wide when plain first up at Doomben. Will appreciate a drier surface and has tactical speed.
BM70 Handicap 1350m:
HE KNOWS
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton
Comment: Solid effort at Eagle Farm when 3rd on resuming but ideally wants affected ground. Very consistent though wins spaced.
Warwick Farm Wednesday Aug 31
BM72 Handicap 1300m:
THINK ABOUT IT
Joe Pride/Rory Hutchings
Comment: Undefeated galloper shooting for a hat-trick on his home track. Drawn the middle and hard to fault.
Wyong Friday Sep 2
Listed Mona Lisa Stakes 1350m:
SNIPPY FOX
Joe Pride/Brenton Avdulla
Comment: Consistent mare chasing some deserved black type and this is around her ideal distance. Drawn to advantage.
Randwick Saturday Sep 3
Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes 1600m:
STOCKMAN
Joe Pride/Sam Clipperton
Comment: Coming off an excellent return in the Winx Stakes when reeling off the fastest last 200m of the meeting. Likely to get a soft track and will appreciate getting out to 1600m.
Mares BM78 Handicap 1100m:
RUBINOCCHI
Joe Pride/Dylan Gibbons (a3)
Comment: Racing well. Caught in the worst part of the track last Saturday at Rosehill but fought on gamely to narrowly miss third under an impost of 59kg. Unknown on the quick back-up.
Doomben Saturday Sep 3
Listed Tattersalls Members Cup 1350m:
SNIPPY FOX
Joe Pride/Ben Thompson
Comment: Looks well placed here but has come up with an awkward barrier. If she can cross and find a spot near the speed, she will be right in the finish.
INVINCIANO
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Coming off a slight setback after running a commendable fourth over the 1400m Eagle Farm course. Likely to need the run to bring her fitness back up and has drawn wide.
BM78 Handicap 1110m:
FETCH
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson
Comment: Kept on the fresh side since a comfortable win over 1000m at Eagle Farm. Drawn the inside and is two wins from three starts at Doomben.
