Saturday winter racing draws to a close on the weekend with Proven female representatives stepping out at both Rosehill and Eagle Farm. All four mares have won at either of their last two starts and look competitive on Saturday.

Smart mares RED RUBI and FETCH look to build on their impressive winning records in the two short course events at Eagle Farm, and the well bred OCEAN TREATY tackles open company for the first time whilst in Sydney, RUBINOCCHI (pictured) flies the flag for the girls in the 1100m BM78 contest.

Another pair of Proven females, RICH LISTER and BETTER YET, head down to the Gold Coast to do battle on Friday. Also, the beautifully bred filly MINGLE returns to the races at Ipswich Wednesday, nine months after her debut.

Last Sunday, under a glorious clear sky, saw a big roll up at the PROVEN/JOE PRIDE Open Morning at Warwick Farm. The caravan moves to Brisbane on Sunday September 11 with the white hot O’DEA/HOYSTED team opening their doors to current and prospective owners from 9.30am. Full details below:

Date: Sunday Sep 11
Place: STEVE O’DEA/MATT HOYSTED Stables. It’s easy to access. Just enter Eagle Farm from the tunnel off Nudgee Road, then follow the road off to the right and Steve’s stables are barns 11 & 12 just after the big screen.
Time: 9.30am
Parading: Our available 2 year old team by sires like ZOUSTAR, MAURICE, DEEP FIELD, SPIRIT OF BOOM, RUBICK, CABLE BAY & BOLT D’ORO.
RSVP: info@proventhoroughbreds.com.au

Open Mornings are not surprisingly, very popular as it’s a rare opportunity to check out the coal face in a relaxed environment. Racing stables are generally a hub of activity in the wee hours so to witness the horses in siesta mode, washed down with a hearty brunch in the company of the trainers, staff and like-minded punters, is a great way to kick into Sunday.

BLACK BOOKER

STOCKMAN may have finished ninth in last Saturday’s Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) but it was as good a run as you will see from a stayer first-up. He ran home not only the fastest last 200m of the race but of the entire meeting! And soon after the line he was up eyeballing the winner ANAMOE. Considering he had only one trial in preparation for the race and the track was firmer than his preferred surface, he went enormous. Fingers crossed there’s a big spring in store for this horse.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Ipswich Wednesday Aug 24

Maiden Handicap 1200m:

MINGLE

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: First up after a disappointing debut back in Dec. Has impressed at home and in some of her trials so seeking redemption in this limited affair.

Gold Coast Friday Aug 26

BM68 QTIS Handicap 1200m:

RICH LISTER

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Copped a head knock in the gates and raced wide when plain first up at Doomben. Will appreciate a drier surface and getting out to 1200m.

BM68 QTIS Handicap 1200m:

HE KNOWS

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Solid effort at Eagle Farm when 3rd on resuming but ideally wants affected ground. Very consistent though wins spaced.

QTIS 3YO Handicap 1350m:

BETTER YET

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Sound debut and should appreciate getting out a touch further. Fitter and more experienced.

Gosford Friday Aug 26

Conditional BM68 Handicap 1600m:

MACCOMO

Kerry Parker/Tyler Schiller

Comment: Improved run with the shades back on at Rosehill in Midway company. Gets up to a mile and drops to provincial grade so poised to run well if he’s still got the zest.

Rosehill Saturday Aug 27

BM78 Handicap 1100m:

RUBINOCCHI

Joe Pride/Tyler Schiller

Comment: Genuine, fast mare freshened up following consistent form over the winter.  Strikes a white hot restricted class field but looks enormous and handles all surfaces.

Eagle Farm Saturday Aug 27

Open Handicap 1835m:

OCEAN TREATY

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: In form mare with a great record. Looks well placed and won her only start at Eagle Farm

Class 6 Plate 1000m:

RED RUBI

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Samantha Collett

Comment: Improving mare who appears to have found her niche, fresh over short courses. Brilliant winner last start at the same track, distance and class of race.

BM70 Handicap 1000m:

FETCH

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: Kept fresh after winning her 4th race from 8 starts. Returns to the same track and distance though rising in grade.

Sunshine Coast Sunday Aug 28

Group 1 Winx Stakes 1400m:

VANDINI

Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Disappointed first up at the Gold Coast but gets out to a mile and back (hopefully) on top of the ground at a bigger track.
