A relatively quiet week ahead but one that will be spearheaded by a promising 3YO returning to the races.
SHOT OF WHISKEY (pictured) was an impressive debut winner as a juvenile last season before racing without luck in the $500,000 QTIS 2YO Jewel at Doomben. He is set to resume in the QTIS 3YO Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday where he has been allotted 57kg. MISS COOTA, who was fifth in the Group 3 BJ McLachlan and eighth in the Gold Coast Magic Million 2YO Classic during the summer, heads the weights with 59kg.
SHOT OF WHISKEY, prepared by Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted, had a quiet hit-out at the Deagon trials on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, established performer RUBINOCCHI heads to Rosehill on Saturday in search of a fifth career win from 17 starts. The Joe Pride-trained mare has a good record at Rosehill with a win, a second and a fourth from three attempts.
Also running this week is UNDERHAND, who is shooting for three wins on the trot at Ipswich on Friday after disposing of her opposition in maiden and BM62 company at Gatton.
The recently completed 2022-23 season will live long in our memory with multiple Group 1 wins, a Melbourne Cup runner and more than $10 million in prizemoney the highlights. You can read a full review of Proven’s 2022-23 season HERE.

BLACK BOOKER
NAVAL TRADER couldn’t get a clear crack at his opposition when it counted first-up over 1200m at Doomben. Once he did get out, he really savaged the line to grab third. He’s scheduled to next run at the Sunshine Coast over 1400m where he will be much better suited, and dare we say, hard to beat.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Ipswich Friday August 11
BM70 Handicap 800m
UNDERHAND
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Emily Lang (a3)
Comment: Shooting for a hat-trick of wins. Been well placed at country level her last two and now rises to a provincial BM70. Will need to keep improving but does have the benefit of a 3kg claim.
Rosehill Saturday August 12
BM78 Handicap 1100m
RUBINOCCHI
Joe Pride/TBA
Comment: Suspect she had a bit of second-up syndrome when beaten more than 5 lengths at Randwick a fortnight ago. First-up she went terrific, finishing fourth to the in-form OMNI MAN. A repeat of that effort would put her right in the mix here.
Eagle Farm Saturday August 12
QTIS 3YO Handicap 1000m
SHOT OF WHISKEY
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Promising 3YO resuming from a break. Looks to have made natural progression from his first campaign based on his recent jumpouts. Go well.
Sunshine Coast Sunday August 13
Maiden Handicap 1600m
AFFECTIONATE
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Looks ready to peak third-up, having her second run over a mile. Was doing her best work late over this track and distance last start.
