Trainer Kerry Parker has long been a regular feature in Midway Races and he will use this Saturday’s edition at Rosehill as a stepping stone in the burgeoning career of WILD THOUGHTS.
WILD THOUGHTS (pictured), an impressive winner of his last two outings, is set to start favourite in the 1800m BM72 Midway Handicap with Jay Ford to do the steering from eight of 13.
The 4yo son of SO YOU THINK has won on a good (4) and a heavy (10) in his brief career so soft conditions will be of no consequence, however the distance is unchartered territory, having never raced beyond 1500m.
Also running at Rosehill will be the Joe Pride-trained COSMONOVA. The ZOUSTAR mare has the task ahead of her with 60kg and barrier 12 from the 1100m start but it is a necessary run to prepare her for another tilt at black type in the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m) at Wyong next Friday.
Elsewhere, Matt Hoysted’s debutant LARADO can confirm his promise when he heads to the Gold Coast on Saturday. The TORONADO gelding has impressed in his trials and has the advantage of barrier one in the 1000m Maiden Plate.

SIRE ON FIRE – SNITZEL
The ever green son of REDOUTE’S CHOICE has picked up where he left off last season with a stakes double on Saturday and an impressive 3yo metro winner. Having recorded more stakes victories than any other Australasian sire in 2024-25, SNITZEL once again leads the way by this metric in season 2025-26.
BLACK BOOKER – ELLE HUDSON
Led all bar the last 50m in last Saturday’s 2400m BM78 event at a rain-sodden Randwick. That was his first ever run beyond 2200m and fair to say he acquitted himself very well, finishing just over 1.6 lengths from the more seasoned winner WUDDZZ who had raced between distances of 2350m and 3000m on 20 previous occasions. According to our times analyst Nic Ashman, ELLE HUDSON’s overall race time was still 4 lengths above standard for this grade of race.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Doomben Wednesday August 27
Class 3 Plate 1350m
OCEAN ZAR
Matt Hoysted/Jake Bayliss
Comment: Disappointed when in the market last start, finishing 5th over this track and distance. Drops from a class 6 to a class 3 so gets her chance to bounce back to form.

ROCK THE SUNRISE
Matt Hoysted/Damien Thornton
Comment: Solid return at Eagle Farm earlier this month when a fast-finishing fourth over 1200m at Eagle Farm. Fitter and will appreciate this distance rise though is likely looking for a touch further.
Ipswich Friday August 29
Maiden Plate 1200m

IMPERIAL RED
Matt Hoysted/Luke Dempsey
Comment: Narrowly beaten first-up at Beaudesert before seemingly having every chance up to 1350m at Doomben. Back to 1200m now and drawn to get favours in the run.
Rosehill Saturday August 30
Midway BM72 Handicap 1800m

WILD THOUGHTS
Kerry Parker/Jay Ford
Comment: Promising type shooting for a hat-trick of wins, having disposed of maiden and class 1 company on his home track of Kembla this preparation. Jumping from 1500m to 1800m for the first time in his career but gives every impression he will relish it.
BM78 Handicap 1100m

COSMONOVA
Joe Pride/Alysha Collett
Comment: Consistent mare back from a let-up. Formlines read well for this however has drawn wide from the notorious 1100m start at Rosehill and carries 60kg.
Eagle Farm Saturday August 30
BM85 Handicap 1200m

TOWN CRIER
Matt Hoysted/Luke Dempsey
Comment: Only collared late first-up and has since trialled very well. Racing in great spirit but will need some luck from another awkward barrier draw.
Class 4 Handicap 1200m

SHOT OF WHISKEY
Matt Hoysted/Luke Dempsey
Comment: Didn’t let down like we know he can in soft (7) conditions first-up here over 1000m. Extra 200m suits as does an improving track surface.
Gold Coast Saturday August 30
Class 2 Handicap 1400m

MOONFLEET
Matt Hoysted/Luke Rolls
Comment: No clear explanation for her mysteriously poor run last start when beaten almost 16 lengths. Won her previous outing so is obviously much better than that.
Maiden Plate 1000m

LARADO
Matt Hoysted/Luke Rolls
Comment: Unraced 4yo loaded with potential. All of his trials have indicated above average ability and the form out of those trials has stood up. Obviously yet to be exposed to the pressures of raceday but looks exciting.
QTIS 3&4YO BM65 Handicap 1100m

TAKE A BOW
Matt Hoysted/Luke Rolls
Comment: Slow into stride (again) over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast first-up before running on strongly into third. Extra 100m helps and if she can jump on terms is a definite winning hope.
Wyong Sunday August 31
Maiden Plate 1000m

IMA CAPRI
Joe Pride/Andrew Adkins
Comment: Showed some ability in his initial preparation, beaten by an aggregate margin of 2.4 lengths in three starts. Resumes a stronger, more mature horse and trials have been positive.
