As the dust settles from PRIVATE EYE’s exhilarating win at Randwick last Saturday we look towards another exciting week of racing with the promising SECRET TALES (pictured) and a debutante among our upcoming runners.

The Joe Pride-trained PRIVATE EYE enhanced his record to seven wins from 10 starts when annexing the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m). For the recently-turned 4YO to produce a career-best performance first-up from a spell was a pleasant surprise and hopefully bodes well for the spring ahead.

SECRET TALES, famous for setting a record winning margin of 18 lengths at the Gold Coast last campaign, will be chasing her third win from only five career starts when she lines up for Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted at Doomben on Saturday.

Elsewhere, last start winner SALTOREE heads to the Sunshine Coast on Sunday while MY SHAMANA is down to make her race debut at the Gold Coast on Friday.

BLACKBOOKER

TORINDA and SILVER SCISSORS were desperately unlucky at Hawkesbury last Thursday. Both horses were first-up from a spell and were disappointed for runs at the business end of the race. It was apparent they had something to offer but simply had no where to go behind a wall of horses. Both are maidens but won’t be for much longer based on their last run.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Ipswich Wednesday August 25

BM68 Handicap 800m:

TRIP THE LIGHT

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Baylee Nothdurft

Comment: Has won two of her last three, finishing second over this course and distance a fortnight ago. Consistent type suited by a small field and will take some catching.

Gold Coast Friday August 27

Maiden Plate 1200m:

MY SHAMANA

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: On debut. Recent trials solid but may be looking for further than 1200m.

Doomben Saturday August 28

3YO Plate 1200m:

SECRET TALES

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Got mobile late over 1000m first-up at Eagle Farm. Can only improve going up to 1200m. First look of Doomben some query.

BM75 Handicap 1050m:

CONTEMPTUOUS

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Baylee Nothdurft

Comment: First-up was a fast finishing second at Doomben over this trip. Got further back than expected there and expect him to take up a more prominent position here.

Sunshine Coast Sunday August 29

BM68 Handicap 1000m/Class 2 Handicap 1000m:

SALTOREE

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Stephanie Thornton

Comment: Appears to appreciate racing at this distance. Finished strongly to win at Eagle Farm last start and should take further improvement third-up.

Wyong Sunday August 29

4YO&UP Maiden Handicap 1100m

TORINDA

Joe Pride/TBA

Comment: No luck whatsoever first-up at Hawkesbury. Virtually went to the line untested and deserves a change of fortunes. This looks an ideal race for him to shed maiden status.
