Racing NSW’s decision to abandon the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) will see PRIVATE EYE head to Melbourne this Saturday for the Group 3 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m).

PRIVATE EYE was originally slated to kick off his fifth spring campaign in the Missile Stakes at Randwick but after that meeting was washed out, will now travel to Caulfield for the first time in his career. Whilst the race was not our first choice, trainer Joe Pride is confident the 8yo gelding’s class will carry him a long way in the $300,000 weight-for-age contest.

Stablemate ELLE HUDSON was another victim of Randwick’s cancellation and so will go around this weekend to keep his fitness levels up ahead of a 2400m BM78 at Rosehill on Saturday week.

Meanwhile at Doomben, our Brisbane trainer Matt Hoysted has assembled a quartet of runners comprising TERMAGANT, NAVAL TRADER, OCEAN ZAR and SECOND SUN.

A handful of other Proven representatives are due to face the starter this week as we look to build on a new season that began with WILD THOUGHTS winning back-to-back races at Kembla last week.

Information on all of Proven’s 2025 yearlings can be viewed on our AVAILABLE HORSES page.

SIRE ON FIRE – TRAPEZE ARTIST

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Eagle Farm Wednesday August 13

BM70 Handicap 1000m

BREAK FREE

Matt Hoysted/Damien Thornton

Comment: Returns to racing in Brisbane following a sound effort at Randwick last month when 6th in a BM72 1100m event. Back in grade and distance should see her prominent here.

BM65 Handicap 1200m

ROCK THE SUNRISE

Matt Hoysted/Damien Thornton

Comment: First-up over an unsuitable trip so likely to need this hit out, particularly from a wide barrier. Look for him to be running on late.

Randwick-Kensington Wednesday August 13

BM72 Handicap 1000m

MOONLIGHT GAMBLER

Joe Pride/Jay Ford

Comment: Resuming on a heavy track which is never ideal but should get a soft run from barrier 1 over the 1000m. Generally improves with racing so suspect he will be better suited next start on a drier track.

Caulfield Saturday August 16

G3 PB Lawrence Stakes 1400m

PRIVATE EYE

Joe Pride/Nash Rawiller

Comment: Class horse racing at Caulfield for the first time in his career. Has proven effective the Melbourne way of going in his Flemington runs so doubt it will be an issue for him. Carries residual fitness into this off the back of his gallant third in the Stradbroke Handicap. Hard to see him not running very well again.

Doomben Saturday August 16

Open Handicap 1200m

NAVAL TRADER

Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Honest type and though yet to win fresh, has placed in four of five attempts. Can win with an economical run however typically prefers a touch further than 1200m, particularly at Doomben.

BM85 Handicap 1110m

TERMAGANT

Matt Hoysted/Ryan Maloney

Comment: Talented mare when right. Had no luck at all in Sydney, missing the start and then going up dead ends. Should get the sting out of the track and can bounce back with a leading rider engaged.

CG&E Class 6 Handicap 1350m

SECOND SUN

Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Stayer resuming so likely to find his opposition a bit sharp over this trip around Doomben. Looking for him to jump out of the ground once he gets out to a mile and beyond.

F&M Class 6 Handicap 1350m

OCEAN ZAR

Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Sound first-up run a fortnight ago when finishing on the heels of the placegetters over 1200m. Now gets into her sweet spot in terms of distance and has won twice in three previous second-up runs.

Kembla Grange Saturday August 16

Midway Maiden Plate 1000m

MOVER AND SHAKER

Kerry Parker/TBA

Comment: Coming off a setback after placing at the Sapphire Coast first-up. Has since trialled very well on her home track so could surprise and break through for her maiden win.

Wyong Sunday August 17

Wyong Cup Prelude 2000m

ELLE HUDSON

Joe Pride/TBA

Comment: Missed a crucial run last Saturday due to the washed out Randwick meeting so will likely need this hit-out to prepare for a 2400m BM78 event at Rosehill next Saturday.

Sunshine Coast Sunday August 17

QTIS BM65 Handicap 1000m

TAKE A BOW

Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Resuming. Possesses a powerful finish but often lets herself down at the start of her races. If she can jump on terms, she will be in the finish. Won a trial at Deagon last week.
