Stable stars THINK ABOUT IT and PRIVATE EYE will take aim at major Group 1 races during the Brisbane winter carnival.

Blake Shinn will ride THINK ABOUT IT when he looks to defend his title in the Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm on June 1. He’s already been $18 into $8.50 in early betting and will relish getting back to WFA conditions.

PRIVATE EYE will run two weeks before that in the Doomben 10000 (1200m). We are hoping James McDonald will be able to continue his association with the evergreen gelding after the pair ran third in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) last Saturday.

The Brisbane winter carnival officially gets underway this Saturday at Eagle Farm where Proven has OCEAN TREATY and CARTWHEELS engaged in stakes races, the latter of which is sweating on a start as fourth emergency.

Then on Sunday, our stakes winning mare BETTER GET SET heads to Rockhampton for Queensland’s $775,000 slot race.

Meanwhile, progressive galloper ACCREDITED will trial at Warwick Farm on Friday in what will be his first public outing since taking out a BM72 in January. The dual city winner is three from six overall and is one of our more exciting prospects. At the same set of trials we’ll see IN FLIGHT and THE BLACK CLOUD, two talented fillies expected to take the next step in their respective careers this winter.

SIRE ON FIRE – TOO DARN HOT

Notched his first southern hemisphere Group 1 winner when BROADSIDING took out the Champagne Stakes at Randwick on Saturday. We have one of his progeny currently in the spelling paddock. He goes by the name of MELTDOWN and is showing promise.

BLACK BOOKER – RED RUBI

RED RUBI clocked the second fastest last 400m of the meeting last Saturday at Eagle Farm when just behind the placegetters at stakes level. Expect her to drop back in grade and be hard to beat when she next races.

BET WITH NIC

Our resident times analyst Nic Ashman is backing a roughie in the SA Oaks at Morphettville this Saturday.

“The data I’m looking at says PRIVATE LEGACY has a sharp turn of foot and likely to relish dry ground. Her past two runs have been commendable on wet tracks and I think she will be a big improver here.”

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Sunshine Coast Thursday April 25

BM58 Handicap 1000m

POLARISING

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Emily Lang

Comment: Her only win came at this track in heavy conditions and she’ll get a similar surface here. Her sectionals last start suggest coming back to 1000m will suit and we expect her to be prominent.

Eagle Farm Saturday April 27

Listed Brisbane Mile 1600m

OCEAN TREATY

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Nikita Beriman

Comment: Clocked the 12th best last 200m of the day first-up despite a tough run indicating she’s come back in good order. She’s never won when fresh but is four from eight when second-up. Expect sharp improvement at big odds.

Listed Princess Stakes 1600m

CARTWHEELS

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Justin Huxtable

Comment: Tested at 1350m first-up with the race producing the best late sectionals of the day. On trial at the mile but has upside and bolted in by 5.3 lengths when second-up last prep. Should get a nice run off the speed with cover (providing she gains a start).

Rockhampton Sunday April 28

The Archer 1300m

BETTER GET SET

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Tommy Berry

Comment: Beat the Listed 1200m benchmark at Doomben by more than a length when resuming last prep and didn’t have the clearest run in the straight. She’s trialled up nicely and has the services of a leading interstate jockey.
