A pair of 3yo fillies will make their long awaited debuts at Hawkesbury on Saturday.

MIND BENDER and ELIVINA (pictured) head to the provincial meeting for Joe Pride and Kerry Parker respectively.

It’s always exciting seeing our next wave of horses hit the racetrack and it goes without saying we are hoping patience will pay off with these two fillies. Both have shown some ability at the trials but as we know the cauldron of raceday is an entirely different beast.

TINTAURA is another 3yo filly set to face the starter this week. The Matt Hoysted-trained galloper heads to Ipswich on Thursday in search of her maiden victory after catching the eye on debut when fifth at Eagle Farm last month.

Meanwhile the hectic sales circuit is finally drawing to a close with the last major auction of the year – Inglis Easter – set to begin on Monday.

This week’s SECTIONALS REVIEW (authored by form analyst Nic Ashman) article takes an in depth look at the Australian Cup winner LIGHT INFANTRY MAN plus our grand campaigner STOCKMAN’s potential over the hurdles ahead of the jumps carnival in Victoria.

SIRE ON FIRE – BRUTAL

His second stakes winner came in the shape of NEPOTISM at Rosehill’s rescheduled Tuesday meeting. The 2yo colt is now a commanding favourite for the Group 1 Champagne Stakes on April 19. Meanwhile BRUTAL’s Group 1 performed daughter HARLEM QUEEN was an eye-catching third against older mares in the Group 3 Emancipation Stakes and is set to be a major player in the Queensland Oaks during the Brisbane winter carnival.

BLACK BOOKER – STOCKMAN

Having a second ‘conditioning’ run over the flat in the Listed Roy Higgins (2600m) at Flemington, STOCKMAN produced the third fastest last 600m and last 200m of the race when finishing sixth. His two Victorian runs have unfortunately been on good tracks so now we are just awaiting some rain. Hopefully that comes during the upcoming Warrnambool carnival.

BET WITH NIC

Our times analyst Nic Ashman will be publishing his popular best bet for Saturday’s racing on Friday.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Warwick Farm Wednesday April 2

BM72 Handicap 1400m

FORTUNEER

Matt Hoysted/Josh Parr

Comment: Has lost form in Queensland so here’s hoping a change of scenery can incite a form reversal because she is clearly talented – winning her first three starts tells you that.

Ipswich Thursday April 3

QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap 1350m

TINTAURA

Matt Hoysted/Jack Martin

Comment: Coming off a very sound debut when working home into fifth over 1200m at Eagle Farm. Strikes a winnable race in country grade, only concern would be if she’s looking for further now.

Hawkesbury Saturday April 5

Maiden Plate 1300m

ELIVINA

Kerry Parker/TBA

Comment: Big staying type having her first start. Indicated ability at the trials but will likely find a couple of others too sharp over this track and distance.

Super Maiden Handicap 1100m/2&3YO Maiden Plate 1000m

MIND BENDER

Joe Pride/TBA

Comment: On debut. Very green in both lead up trials but looks to have some ability. The race tempo should help her settle mid-race and save her best work for the business end of the race.

Eagle Farm Saturday April 5

Class 6 Plate 1200m

TOWN CRIER

Matt Hoysted/Jack Martin

Comment: Racing in great heart, winning his last two starts with big weights. This is another step up and has a wide draw to overcome so will likely need to pull out a career best performance to win.

QTIS 3YO Quality 1200m

TAKE A BOW

Matt Hoysted/Nikita Beriman

Comment: Didn’t have a great deal of room to run on last time but still performed below expectations in BM70 company here. Up in grade but plunges in weight and if the tempo is genuine she can bounce back.

Sunshine Coast Sunday April 6

Class 3 Handicap 1200m

CARTWHEELS

Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Brilliant winner first-up over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast but offered little when going to 1400m second-up at Eagle Farm. Back to 1200m is probably more her go and if the forecast rain arrives, her chances are only enhanced.
