Patience is sometimes, though not always rewarded in racing but Friday at Murwillumbah, emerging stayer SECOND SUN took another step forward in his burgeoning career.
The big chestnut, who only debuted as a late 3yo, dispensed of BM66 rivals in his first attempt at 2000m. Settling sweetly for rider Andrew Mallyon, THE AUTUMN SUN gelding had a couple of lengths to spare on the line after struggling to manoeuvre around the tight, country circuit.
“He rounded them up on his ear,” said Mallyon.
“I think there are better races in him. Gives me the impression he could get out further in trip and be competitive.”

In just eight starts SECOND SUN has now won three times, including his last two on the bounce. A $100,000 Magic Millions purchase from Arrowfield Stud, the 4yo will now likely be tested in metropolitan company.
Lengthy traffic delays from Brisbane which resulted in the horse not arriving until just an hour before the race, added merit to the dominant victory.
Trainer Matt Hoysted was most impressed with both the performance and his unflappable demeanour following the long, hot trip.
“I just want to see how he pulls up over the next few days after an experience like that. But he now looks ready to take the next step up in grade,” a thoughtful Hoysted offered post-race as he basked in a stable double at Ipswich, the stable’s fifth triumph since Christmas!
It was also Proven’s third QLD victory in 24 hrs after a double at Warwick on Boxing Day. Our annual winners total now stands at 61 with a few more irons in the fire over the weekend.
