At their biological core, horses are herd animals. And so, observation of their behaviour within a social hierarchy can provide the first glimpse of a competitive streak.
In an article published last week, we spoke about desire (to race) and physical development being two of the most important ingredients in a budding racehorse.
Physical development can take years to unfurl while desire to race won’t be confirmed until raceday.
However, how they interact with other horses in a paddock environment, usually gives a pretty good insight into their personality and willingness to assert themselves over their peers.
If you can determine the ‘Alpha’ of the herd, then there’s a very good chance that horse won’t like losing a race!
A video report we received this month from Hayfields Racing identified the SHAMUS AWARD x WITH A BIT OF DASH 2yo gelding as the “boss” of his paddock (despite recently losing his manhood!). Watch the revealing video update below:
But wait there’s more! His half-sister RATADASH, the only sibling to race thus far, ran a cracking 2nd in a photo finish at Adelaide two Saturdays ago – running the quickest final 1000m, 800m, 600m, 400m and 200m of the race! Watch the result and replay HERE.
From $4050 inc GST (2.5% share) you can get involved in this Alpha 2yo…
