Veteran stayer STOCKMAN pulled out all stops to record Proven Thoroughbreds’ first ever win over the hurdles at Warrnambool on Sunday.
Having only his third start over the jumps, STOCKMAN converted a pair of minor placings into a much-deserved win under the urgings of Steven Pateman.
The 8yo son of TAVISTOCK was posted three-wide without cover for the entire 3200m journey but appreciated galloping room and the heavy (8) surface to defeat the race favourite FARAG by a length, with a further nine lengths back to the third placegetter TOPSPIN.
“That’s what they wanted him to do at the carnival!” 😅

FARAG had got the better of STOCKMAN in an identical race at Terang on June 15, so it was pleasing to see our gelding turn the tables in what will likely be his final jumps race until the 2026 season.
Trainer Symon Wilde believes STOCKMAN has both the jumping and staying ability to be a genuine competitor during next year’s Warrnambool carnival but for now it is a case of ‘job done’.
Sunday’s break through victory was the 10th of STOCKMAN’s storied career and takes his total earnings past $1.9 million.
He was a $175,000 yearling purchase from Cambridge Stud at the 2018 NZB Karaka Sale.
With just over three weeks left of the current racing season, Proven Thoroughbreds’ tally of winners stands at 56.
