Improving mare RICH LISTER bagged her third win around the Ipswich circuit in effortless fashion on Thursday.
The 4YO daughter of RICH ENUFF found herself in an unfamiliar trailing position midway through the 1200m Class 3 for fillies and mares but quickened smartly in the home straight for Stephanie Thornton to win eased down by 2.3 lengths.
Travelling fifth one off the fence was not a deliberate deviation from her usual on-pace tactics but sparked a career-best performance by the Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted-trained galloper.
“She was brilliant today,” Thornton said.
“She didn’t muster speed as well as she has in the past but there was good speed around her.
“As it turned out we landed in a beautiful position, and she was so relaxed for me today.
“She’s definitely got more improvement to come.”
There’s no question she races best at Ipswich, but RICH LISTER has now reached a level such that it will be difficult to sidestep metropolitan company.
She is already city-placed and looks more than capable of making the necessary improvement to be winning at Doomben or Eagle Farm.
RICH LISTER is raced by an all-women syndicate, having been purchased by Proven Thoroughbreds for $32k from Lyndhurst Stud at the 2019 Magic Millions March Yearling Sale.
It has been a fruitful week for the Proven team with a quartet of winners, all prepared by O’Dea and Hoysted.
Our seasonal tally has climbed to 10 while our count for the calendar year stands at 43.
