4YO mare GOSSIP COLUMN broke through for a deserved victory at Beaudesert on Thursday.

Runner-up twice in metropolitan company last preparation, GOSSIP COLUMN started an equal favourite in the 1200m Maiden Handicap and stuck on resolutely over the concluding stages to win by a head.

The Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted-trained mare made the most of her early speed to cross the field from a wide barrier before establishing a clear lead mid race.

With her rivals off the bit and chasing throughout, GOSSIP COLUMN’s fast start proved the difference in the end as she repelled a late challenge from the other fancied runner CAPITAL EYES.

It was stable apprentice Emily Lang’s first win for Proven Thoroughbreds and 10th from her last 41 rides, equating to an impressive 24.4% strike rate.

A daughter of WRITTEN TYCOON, GOSSIP COLUMN is out of the stakes placed ENCOSTA DE LAGO mare DIVA DEE.

She becomes Proven’s 4th winner in 2023 and 15th for the 2022-23 season.
