It took four starts to crunch that elusive maiden status, but giant filly INDEFENSIBLE finally delivered Friday on the Canberra Acton track.
Her previous trio of defeats had prompted a strong defence from Joe Pride who remained staunchly faithful in the big chestnut’s ability so very heartening for the trainer that on this occasion, there was no counselling required!
Slightly tardy away, the daughter of ALL TOO HARD, regained her poise, got into a trailing position and then popped out three deep from the 600m before hitting the line strongly to score by a clear length in the 1080m Maiden.

“I just wanted to take luck out of the equation,” announced rider Jeff Penza on returning to scale.
“She’s a very laid back filly who am sure will get further & enjoy getting further back in the field.”
“Did think she’d really put them away & though she didn’t really find a top speed, got the job done.”
Naturally Joe Pride was as relieved as the connections after suggesting that INDEFENSIBLE was above average for some time.
“I did think she’d win more impressively,” said Pride.
“However, have seen her stretch out with a much bigger stride on the grass previously, so perhaps the Acton surface negated her sprint a bit.”
Joe has resorted to the Canberra Acton in recent seasons to foil Sydney’s prevailing wet tracks over the late autumn and winter months.
Where INDEFENSIBLE heads next is a moot point given her dislike of significantly affected ground. She may even have a short letup if a suitable track can’t be identified.
She was a $90,000 purchase from Golden Grove Stud at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
Friday’s win was Proven’s 47th for season 2024/25 with just over 2 months remaining.
