“We’ve got a small field and a muddling tempo so the type of horse that wins these events is one who can accelerate better than its rivals. Low weights help horses accelerate and PONDALOWIE carries just 52kg here,” Ashman said.
“Relative to standard times she produced the 2nd fastest last 200m of the day on Stakes day at Flemington last year and got a spot in our blackbook. She was smashed in betting first-up but was too far back.”
“Only run this track and distance resulted in a close 2nd to the talented NIANCE with a gap to 3rd.”
The top price around for PONDALOWIE as at Friday evening was $3.50.
Last week’s tip VIA SISTINA was third in a slowly run Apollo Stakes. Nic’s tips are still striking at 60% since the beginning of last year with 18 collects from 30 selections.
