Lightly raced mare MOONFLEET was a determined winner at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

Contesting the 1400 Class 2 event third-up from a spell, MOONFLEET was trained to the minute by Matt Hoysted and duly got the cash as a $2.80 favourite.

However it wasn’t exactly smooth sailing for her backers. The 4yo was under hard riding from Nikita Beriman before the home turn and then had to dig deep over the final 100m to reel in SPITZBERG.

The winning margin was 0.2 lengths while the race time was 1:25.70.

“Great to see this mare chalk up her first win of the preparation today,” Hoysted said.

“I thought she paraded particularly well, she seemed really engaged which is what we wanted to see.

“She does hit that flat spot coming to the turn but once she was able to balance up and build through her gears, she changed onto her fresh leg and really extended.”

Now with two wins and a pair of placings from her six career starts, MOONFLEET is building a tidy record and is racing as though a distance rise will suit her even more.

Whilst she has never raced beyond 1400m, her sire BOLT D’ORO won up to 1700m in America and her second dam is by legendary staying sire ZABEEL.

MOONFLEET was a $55,000 yearling from the 2022 Adelaide Magic Millions Sale. At the recently concluded 2025 Adelaide Sale, Proven purchased a beautiful TASSORT filly for the exact same price (details HERE).

Now two-thirds of the way through season 2024-25, Proven’s winners tally stands at 38.
