3YO filly MERSEYSIDE provided a special win at the Sunshine Coast polytrack meeting on Friday night.

The Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted-trained galloper improved on a pair of second place finishes this campaign to win the BM60 1400m event by 1.5 lengths.

The win was a sentimental one because part owner Leigh Thompson sadly passed away last week at the early age of 49.

He is survived by his wife Donna and daughters Morgan and Rachel, who were no doubt cheering home their filly to victory.

We can only hope the positive result provided some happiness to the Thompson family during what would be an incredibly difficult time.

With two wins and three placings from eight starts, MERSEYSIDE is only just starting to hit her straps and rider Samantha Collett was full of praise for the daughter of BETTER THAN READY following the win.

“I thought she was electric to be honest,” Collett said.

“I’m wrapped for her because she’s been knocking on the door, and she won pretty easy tonight.”

MERSEYSIDE becomes Proven Thoroughbreds’ 52nd winner for the 2021-22 term and elevates our seasonal prizemoney to $3,882,435.
