Another confidence boosting win for the Matt Hoysted-trained MELTDOWN has him well positioned to finally deliver on some of his early promise.
Having got the money over 1400m at the Sunshine Coast on February 1, MELTDOWN ventured to Warwick on Monday and duly saluted in the 1500m BM60 event.
Chasing a tear-away leader, MELTDOWN had to cart the field up to the home turn but proved too strong for his opposition as he strolled to a 1.23-length win under the riding of Jag Guthmann-Chester.
“Really happy with him. He got into a lovely rhythm and when I started putting him into the race, he really towed me into it and gave a nice kick,” Guthmann-Chester said.
“We were left in front a long way out and over the last 100m he wanted to have a look around, but I thought it was quite a soft win in the end.”
The son of TOO DARN HOT has been a work in progress with the Hoysted team. Prior to his recent pair of victories, the gelding had been unplaced in four starts at Ipswich, Grafton, Gold Coast and Eagle Farm.
A return to Brisbane metropolitan racing now appears imminent, particularly if he can extend to a mile and beyond.
Although the progeny of TOO DARN HOT are predominantly sprinters, MELTDOWN’s dam NAI’A (by LONHRO) won up to 1600m.
MELTDOWN is the Hoysted stable’s 13th winner since January 1.
Meanwhile Proven’s seasonal tally of winners is now up to 25.
