5YO gelding MACCOMO relished being back in his front-running role when dominating Friday night’s Evening Star Handicap at Canterbury.
The Joe Pride-trained galloper made full use of barrier two from the 1550m start, seizing the lead for gun apprentice Tyler Schiller.
Bowling along at a good clip, MACCOMO had his rivals chasing throughout the contest and was never threatened in the run home as he crossed the line with 1.75 lengths to spare.
One trend that has unquestionably become evident in MACCOMO’s form is that he improves with racing. Indeed, all three of his career wins have come when at least fourth-up from a spell.
MACCOMO, an $85,000 yearling from the 2018 NZB Karaka Sale, is our second Evening Star winner of the summer, following stablemate SNIPPY FOX’s success on November 26.
MACCOMO also has the honour of being our first winner for 2022 and 32nd for the 2021-22 season.
