STOCKMAN’s swooping win at Wyong on Thursday provided the latest endorsement for the potent TAVISTOCK x ZABEEL cross.

The Joe Pride-trained three-year-old came from last under Rory Hutchings to take out the 1600m Class 1 event on a soft (7) surface.

STOCKMAN is one of 40 winners bred on the TAVISTOCK x ZABEEL nick, made famous by Group 1 winners like WERTHER, TARZINO, and more recently Australasian Oaks heroine TOFFEE TONGUE.

Longer distances now await the stoutly-bred STOCKMAN with Joe to decide on the gelding’s next start in the coming days.

STOCKMAN was purchased for $175,000 at the 2018 NZB Karaka Yearling Sale and is closely related to DESTINY’S KISS, a former warrior of the Pride stable who won 19 races in a 102-start career.

Proven Thoroughbreds’ only NZ-bred horse on offer in 2020 is a filly from the first crop of exciting young sire TIVACI. Proven Director Jamie Walter is bullish about TIVACI’s prospects at stud:

“TIVACI is the only horse by HIGH CHAPARRAL in the world to have won a Group 1 below 1600m – he has that attractive blend of speed with a stout pedigree. And we’ve already seen what a great sire of sires HIGH CHAPARRAL is, through SO YOU THINK, DUNDEEL and TORONADO.”

Shares in the TIVACI x SNOWDONIA filly start at $1,818.2 + GST (2.5%). Payment is also accepted via 5 interest-free instalments of $400.

Proven Thoroughbreds’ tally of winners for the season has now climbed to 36 with prizemoney totaling $1.722 million.
