A hoof injury has resulted in an unfortunate end to Sir Moments’ Queensland winter carnival.

Sir Moments, a five-time stakes winner, was being prepared by trainer Steve O’Dea for a freshened-up tilt at the Group I Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 11 but the son of Choisir has run out of time to recover from a quarter crack hoof injury.

It is the third time Sir Moments has gone amiss leading into a winter carnival feature race after a hock injury prevented him from lining up in last year’s Group I Doomben Cup (2000m) and a foot abscess ruled him out of the Group II Hollindale Stakes (1800m) earlier this month.

Sir Moments will now head out for a short spell with a view to returning for a possible early Melbourne spring carnival campaign.
