Getting into the mind of horses who haven’t won for some time, is a challenge trainer Joe Pride relishes. ELLE HUDSON‘s dour victory in Tuesday’s 2200m BM64, was another triumph for Pride.

The ex-Kiwi galloper had not scored for 18 months despite running creditably for many of those 14 winless starts.

Joe felt the big stretches of Newcastle, where the gelding had broken his maiden, the testing 2200m journey and grade of race, seemed the ideal set up for the five year-old to break his run of outs.

“He was very well ridden by Sam Clipperton from a good draw but at the 300m there was a moment of truth where he had to put the race away,” Pride said post-race.

“Fortunately he found in the manner he should have in that grade, if he was going to have a future in Sydney.”

Clipperton agreed and suggested the horse will get even further.

“He will stay all day this horse. We did have a lovely run in transit from the one alley but he responded when asked.”

Pride now plans to run the son of TARZINO on July 29 at the Kensington track over 2400m.

“If he runs well there then a Saturday race over the same trip at Randwick on the course proper beckons 10 days later,” he added.

The win concluded an excellent week for the Proven colours, embracing the winners circle five times, three of which were prepared by the Pride stable.

The tally of winners for the season now sits at 43 with earnings of close to $3.5m.
