ELLE HUDSON broke a long run of outs saluting at his previous start and promptly added another win when careering away from his BM72 rivals on the Kensington track Wednesday.
We never stop learning about horses with unfolding careers, even rising 6 year olds! The TARZINO gelding has suddenly doubled his strike rate when it had appeared as if he had plateaued.
However, on closer scrutiny, the grey’s record beyond 2000m actually reads impressively. Five starts, two wins, two thirds and a close fifth is a tidy score sheet over longer trips.
Wednesday’s 2400m opposition was nothing to crow about, indeed the highest rated horse was only 67 in the BM72 contest. Yet the authority of the almost 4 length victory has prompted trainer Joe Pride to attempt the rise to Saturday company.
“To graduate to Saturday class from the midweeks, you really need to dominate the competition,” said Pride post race.
“He did that in the best performance of his career so there’s now a lovely sequence of restricted 2400m races in town for him, commencing Saturday week.”
It was a daring ride by Sam Clipperton having found himself in second last place from a good draw, though he did sensibly stay off the fence which gave him options.
“I took off early from back in the field because we had gone so slowly for the first 3/4 of the race and I was very confident he would run the trip out strongly,” Clipperton exclaimed to connections.
“And he’s won convincingly so I think he’s a horse on the up.”
How quickly things can change because earlier in the preparation after failing at Canterbury, the horse’s reputation was very much on the line. Securing two successive wins has completely rejuvenated his career.
In a golden end to the season, the win was Proven’s 10th in July to round out a total of 48 victories in 2025/26.
