The Joe Pride-trained THINK ABOUT IT completed a meteoric rise to racing’s elite level with victory in the Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) at just his 9th career start on Saturday.

A cool ride by regular pilot Sam Clipperton had THINK ABOUT IT travelling beautifully in a three-wide trailing position while stablemate EDUARDO set the pace in front.

Approaching the 400m marker, THINK ABOUT IT came off heels to launch his challenge and mowed down ROTHFIRE over the concluding stages to win the $1 million race by three-quarters of a length.

It was the gelding’s sixth consecutive win and eighth from nine trips to the races since making his debut in a Kembla maiden just 10 months ago.

The son of SO YOU THINK’s fierce will to win and versatility have been pivotal in his rise to the top, as has been the expert training of Joe Pride.

THINK ABOUT IT will be afforded a 5kg weight drop when he lines up in the $3 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) back at Eagle Farm in a fortnight. Current markets have him quoted as the $3 favourite.

But racing can be a fickle game so for now, we will enjoy the Kingsford-Smith Cup success with a big group of elated owners!

Congratulations to everyone involved with THINK ABOUT IT, including his strapper Jeff and travelling foreman Brendan.

Proven Thoroughbreds has been truly blessed with results over the last couple of years. Since 2021, the black and lime green colours have been carried to 22 stakes victories, highlighted by PRIVATE EYE’s Epsom Handicap triumph and THINK ABOUT IT’s Kingsford-Smith win on Saturday.
