She had always shown potential and indeed the precocity to run as an October juvenile, but COME CLEAN had a blank scoresheet from her three runs prior to winning out of her grade in a 1200m BM58 for 3YOs at Beaudesert Tuesday.
Ridden patiently by Stephanie Thornton, the SPILL THE BEANS filly was too strong in the straight to get off the mark in style and bag her owners $25,200 with QTIS bonuses.
“She was great today. Flew out of the gates and landed in a nice spot. Then once we got inside the 600m I really wanted to let her go through her gears just to make sure they didn’t skip away,” said Thornton post-race.
“She’s still very green, plenty of improvement to come and she’ll learn a lot from today. I’d like to see her over further for sure.”
A bargain $17.5k purchase from the Aquis draft at the 2020 Magic Millions March Sale, the daughter of SPILL THE BEANS is a half sister to Adelaide STAKES winner SUNSET ROCK and gives trainers Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted the impression that she’ll get over slightly longer trips.
“A few of these ‘BEANS are getting a mile and hopefully she can stretch out to that distance,” said Steve.
The O’Dea/Hoysted team has saddled a trio of PROVEN winners in the past 5 days and 8 for the 21/22 season taking our overall total to 9 victories since the August 1 kick off.
